Hi
I've got v.skinny legs and yesterday found a pair of knee-length boots that fit and dont sag!
They're £35  real leather but the guy said they're the last pair in the shop (last night ay 8pm when they shut) of course they're slightly scuffed, and so i was wondering - for all you bargain-hunting MSE'ers!!..could u give me some tips on asking for a discount on this amount ?
They're in the sale from £70 down to £35 but could i say to him 'its the last pair - people's feet been in it etc'..what would work ?? ANY ideas helpful.
Thanks!

tell him you really like them but they're still too much - ask him if he's willing to mark them down further because of the scuff marks, and if so, you'll take them.
Although if that's on the label as being a reason for the reduction, you might be better off smiling sweetly and asking nicely
I always find that if you're polite, you stand a better chance.0 -
They're on the Sale rack.
Nothing related to the scuffs on them.
They open at 10am so am heading there now!CC1: [strike]1,500[/strike] CC2:[strike]£830[/strike] Vanquis [strike]£1500[/strike] £2000 left

Smiling and not being bolshy usually works for me!
Asking something along the lines of: "I really like these, but they are scuffed and there isn't another pair - is there any chance you could knock something off the price for me?" I've found most stores will offer 10% discount - but you then can't return the item if you change your mind
Good luck!:money: I heart Martin! :money:0 -
When in doubt ask....0

They wouldnt knock anything off
- it was Brantano and they said to me that they specialise in selling stuff thats ALL on display so there'd be nothing knocked off.
I asked for the manager and smiled sweetly etc but he reiterated what the sales asst said to me.
Oh well: i've never spent that much on a pair of shoes before in my life - £35 - so still feeling guilty but hey-ho; real leather so should last a while - right ?CC1: [strike]1,500[/strike] CC2:[strike]£830[/strike] Vanquis [strike]£1500[/strike] £2000 left

£35.00 is a very good price for a pair of real leather boots and they will last you for many years and to find a pair that fit so well ...... what a really good investment you've made .... does that make you feel better! Ditch the guilt and enjoy.0

At the weekend I went into a local garden centre to look at artificial trees. It was the third garden centre I had been into and found one that I liked. Unfortunately they only had the display model left and it was £99 which I would have paid but it had a small branch snapped off. I asked one of the lads serving if they were going to get any more in and he said no, then walked off. I went and found a supervisor and asked her the same question. She told me that they wouldn't, so I mentioned about the branch being snapped and asked if she would reduce the tree. She said I could have it for £80 and they would throw in a storage bag worth £10 free of charge. I was very pleased with that.
Always speak to the supervisor/manager rather than just a staff member. You don't get anywhere unless you ask but be prepared for them to say NO.0 -
I bought a carpet (to be fitted) last week in Carpet Right.
After the guy worked out cost of carpet, fitting, delivery, underlay and anything else he could think of, he gave me the price I was expecting.
I then asked if he could 'knock anything off' for me.
He looked disgusted!
I told him that a local shop had given me a lower price on underlay and fitting (which was true, but they didn't have the carpet I wanted).
He said that they (smaller shops) could do that because they are smaller?????
Then out of the blue, he offered a discount. I pushed a little more and got delivery charge taken off, then had a bit of a flirt and a joke ............................... amazingly he knocked off in total £78 of a £340 original price.
All that just for asking. Especially after he said snooty like in the beginning no.
Plus I was prepared to pay the first price anyway.
ALWAYS ask, just in case. you never know!!!
