EDF - pushing 'smart meter' more vigorously than ever
I've mentioned this before concerning EDF and their 'encouragement' to get a so-called smart meter. I've resisted for just over a year now, but I'm now getting emails and post at an increasing frequency urging me to, as they put it, "claim your free smart meter". Now they're suggesting if I don't cave in they may move me onto the standard tariff (yes, I did acknowledge at the time of moving to the current tariff that it came with a 'smart' meter).
Is anyone else getting these veiled threats from EDF? My current tariff expires in April and I'm hoping to hold out till then. Worst case, I'll have to move supplier.

If you signed up to a tariff that required a smart meter then you cannot blame the supplier for pestering you to have one fitted.3

Correct. However, I queried it with them at the time - I still have a transcript of the online chat - and it was stated that smart meters are not compulsory and in any case there are no plans to install them in my area. Now maybe the chatter didn't know what he was talking about ,but I've got it in black and white.[Deleted User] said:If you signed up to a tariff that required a smart meter then you cannot blame the supplier for pestering you to have one fitted.0 -
They're not compulsory, but your tariff might require one to be installed, this is basically exactly what EDF are saying, otherwise you'll be placed back on to a variable tariff.
