Second job question.....

Hi,
I work full time 8-4pm Mon-Fri and wanted to boost my income as I have the spare time. My job is home based.
I applied for a home delivery driver position - this was 6 hours on a Saturday and 2 evenings a week 6-11pm.
Before the interview was even officially started, was having a chit chat and I was asked why I leaving my job, to which I replied I wasn't.
I was then told it was illegal for them to employ me due to GB domestic rules.
I had never even heard of this before. The interviewee was very young and I wasn't sure if this is correct or not?

Absolute rubbish. If your full time job is home based, you clearly aren't driving so won't be in breach of any regulations about maximum driving hours.hazza80 said:Hi,

But might be In breach of the working time regulations, unless the OP opts out.
However, the company are perfectly at liberty not to employ you if you're not giving up the day job, and it's not at all unusual for an employment contract to say you must have permission to do another job.Signature removed for peace of mind1 -
It may have been an excuse, but the reality would have been that they wanted part-time contracts and full-time hours. Happens often enough.1

"GB Domestic Rules" is a specific term referring to drivers hours. You doing a full-time job as well is likely to put you over the limit.hazza80 said:Hi,

ETA: or they may be concerned that they would be liable under H&S legislation if they let you drive that much after a full working day.
