Live advertising for non-existing deal/offer

My partner and I were on a weekend break in Scotland. There was an Ad at the airport for 25% discount for return bus trip to the city. However, the driver informed us that the offer has been withdrawn months ago and we have to pay full fair both ways. There was no point arguing with the driver so we just paid.
Somehow it doesn't feel right. Shouldn't the bus company remove the Ad if the offer is no longer available?

Yes, they should.
But there were probably dates on the ad, too. Which we, the public, are supposed to check.
If you have the time and you can be bothered, you could always write and complain. See what they say. Please note - taken from the Forum Rules and amended for my own personal use (with thanks) : It is up to you to investigate, check, double-check and check yet again before you make any decisions or take any action based on any information you glean from any of my posts. It is possibly the airport's fault. I imagine they prefer to leave a poster up for longer than has been paid for rather than leaving a blank space.
