Hybrid boiler v combi boiler

I don't really need any clarification as I've owned a heatpump for the past eleven years and am pretty well aware of how they work. Iarty688 said:
Your right they are not hybridish they are hybrid , as the definition of hybrid is ' combining 2 elements ' in case you didn't understand the term. ASHP is electric the same as the immersion hence my new work hybridish. I hope that clarifies it for you .matelodave said:
what are you talking about.arty688 said:most heat pump systems are already hybridish as the have an immersion heater in the tank. I guess you are just replacing the immersion with a gas boiler.
Having an immersion heater in the tank is no more "hybridish" than having an immersion heater in the tank with a gas, oil, biomass or lpg boiler.
MO if you dont know how they work and are just spouting hearsay then you really shouldn't be offering adviceNever under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -

In my old house I had a gas boiler and a hot water cylinder that did not have an immersion heater. But that's pretty unusual, isn't it? If you actually have a hot water tank rather than a combi boiler then the norm is for it to have an immersion heater as a back-up in case the boiler is out of action.
Some heat pumps have an auxiliary electric water heater. Mine does not; I have the impression that these are going out of use as heat pump technology improves.Reed0 -
I'm not convinced they will be as a heap pump works best with a tank and if you are going to have a tank you may as well have an immersion.Reed_Richards said:In my old house I had a gas boiler and a hot water cylinder that did not have an immersion heater. matelodave , the clarification was for the term hybrid which you didn't seem to understand,
I also have had an ASHP for around 11 years although my mom has had a gas boiler for over 40 years and she has no idea how it works...8kw system spread over 6 roofs , surrounded by trees and in a valley.0 -
People do strange things. I too had a cylinder with no immersion heater. Stranger yet, it was run from a combi, hooked up as a separate heating circuit. No wonder it never quite got the water hot enough!Reed_Richards said:In my old house I had a gas boiler and a hot water cylinder that did not have an immersion heater. I would not dispute that and was not doing so. Most heat pumps will need an immersion heater as a precaution against Legionella as well as as a backup. That's a heater that heats the hot water that comes out of your taps by means of an electrical element inside the cylinder. However some heat pumps also have an electrical heater element that can heat the recirculating hot water directly. Mine does not.arty688 said:
