This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about
everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great,
inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old
Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already.
Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check
the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style
natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

Good morning, I've been awake since about 3.30, so finally gave in and got up.Welcome to our new posters,it's always nice to "see" a new face!Sorry to read about your tv problems Hester, is that it, is there nothing you can do?Well done on the kitchen cupboard cleaning Camelot, I'm always puzzled by the amount of crumbs I find in drawers in th kitchen, it's not as if they're left open. I quite like doing the kitchen, I put an audio book on and listen while I'm working. It was nice to see DS and family yesterday, they arrived at about 1.30. I had a sort of light lunch/substantial snack ready, baked spuds, quiches, salad, ham, coleslaw and pickles. I'd nipped to the little Sains up the road and bought a nice chocolate cake as well. They stayed till about 5 then went home to prepare for their working week ahead. Not a lot on today, Dgd will visit as usual, after school.Nanny, you'll cause a water shortage in Wales if you keep on washing at this rate !Hope everyone has a good Monday, or as good as they can anyway.Take care folks.15

Morning All
Thanks for the start nmlc, I love a 'picky' lunch, sounds delicious.
Welcome to the new posters, good to see you.
Yesterday it just drizzled all day so after shopping the kitchen drawers didn't get done, I wrapped all the Christmas presents I have and made a list of what I still have to get, not much to buy now. It looks like DS1 and his partner are coming for Christmas but there are new restrictions in The Netherlands so we'll have to wait and see. They are the hardest to buy for especially as they can't carry everything home with them and don't really need anything.
Swimming this morning then another day at the madhouse, hoping for a quieter week than last week. I'll try and get to the library after work as I've run out of books, will have to check what time they close.
Hope you all have a happy Monday, take care. XX

Morning folks. Thanks for starting us off Scarlett.Yesterday was fairly unremarkable though peaceful. The rain piddled and the sun stayed behind thick cloud all day. I tackled a challenging techie problem again once I'd worked out what I was doing wrong 😂 and managed to link up my blinds to the phone app. Can't tell you how happy that made me as it'd been bothering me for a couple of weeks.
In the late afternoon a neighbour called in with her very wet and muddy dog. I keep old towels by the door so he got rubbed down before getting by the fire. We enjoyed a very convivial time over a gin and tonic then her husband arrived to collect her so he joined in. It was so lovely. It's still dark outside and I'm cosy under my duvet, I'll stay here until the light arrives.Happy Monday to all. 🌺15 -
Morning all
Seems cold here this morning but its dry and meant to stay that way so thats something. Back to work for me, the weekends seem to go by in an instant, two days off is just not enough, I cant wait for my four day week to start, it will hopefully be in the next couple of weeks and then I will have Fridays off to make it a longer weekend.
Left over roast tonight the lamb was delicious and there is just enough for a meal tonight, the dogs had a roast too which they love, we picked all the 'scrappy' bits off of the bone for them and they had loads of veg and some roasties and a tiny bit of gravy.
DW to empty this morning and I shall see if there is enough for a wash, I think dd stripped her bed yesterday evening so that could go on.
Have good days all and stay safe xxx13 -
Morning folks and thanks SCARLET - sorry you were again a member of the can't sleep club. And a warm welcome to the newbies - wow 3 in one day! Stick with us, we are always here to listen to your worries or share in your triumphs.
It will be like going back almost 20 months today, I have the 2 youngest DGDs here for tea and sleepover. Pre Covid they were regularly here to sleep 2 or 3 nights a week and then the restrictions and lockdowns changed it all. In that time they had to get themselves up when DD was on an early shift and be out in time to catch the bus to school, with eldest DGD there to oversee them. It was just fortunate that by then all 3 were at the same school so that made it easier. Anyway, one guess what has been requested for tea!! I hope I remember how to make it! The mince was left out defrosting overnight so I'm now good to go!
Yesterday ended up a day of Sloth, but isn't that what Sundays are for! A bit of a busy morning veg prepping and soup making to clear the decks of surplus stocks before fresh supplies came with my Te*co delivery and then it was feet up snuggled under the heated throw for the rest of the day. I may have dozed off at one point after my sleepless night.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for the poorlies, poorly loved ones and those with worries or woes. HESTER I hope you can find a solution to your tv problems without it costing a fortune. Take care one and all and be safe xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"15 -
Morning all.
Thanks for the thread Scarlet and hugs to all those in need.
Definitely the end of the road with the tv/aerial problems, I've been without tv since Oct 2019 so I'm used to it. Fortunately I'm not a soap addict, it's ok during the summer when we are moving regularly. During the winter I get bored, I can go weeks without seeing anyone to talk to.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester.Chin up, Titus out.16 -
Morning all...It's a bit parky out this morning, and I only know that because the downstairs toilet is fuh fuh fuh freezing... Need to ring mechanic this morning because if he can't get the part, maybe I can. Then we have a zoom with the architect, and some other things to do. OH came off his bicycle twice last Friday, he's a bit bashed up...so is the bicycle, so he has to get that fixed today otherwise he'll be walking to walk. Funny how there's something wrong with all the transport at once. Suppose it's like electrical items, one goes, they all start going...The monstrous cupboard has gone, very lovely chap came and picked it up so the room is emptier than it's ever been. Now one chair to go and a small table, although I may keep the table just to put the Christmas tree on. I'm having a sofa and chairs off a friend who's moving back to her country, they're really nice, so our manky old saggy thing will be going before Christmas. It'll be like having a newly decorated house....Didn't get round to any sanding or upcycling last week, hopefully this week will see it done...Can't really do it until it stops raining...TA, bet you're happy for the company and back to normality...Ruby, that's what a friend of mine is doing, four days a week, but her day off is in the middle so she's only in work for two days at a time..Longer weekend sounds better though, well done on gettng a good result from your work. Gers, ah...technology...sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't..let's hope it continues to work! Scarlet, I wonder about that too..It's not like I cut bread over the drawer, or butter toast anywhere near it.. Right, off for more tea to wake up...Be good to yourselves..Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi14

Morning everyone
I was good yesterday and got the grass all cut - the mower has been cleaned and is tucked away at the back of the shed till next year.
I then had a nice chat with eldest DD - she is going to Barcelona today for work for a few days. Apparently it's 18 degrees there - very nice!
DD won a 'graze' box in a raffle so she came up with little one and we had it for tea - lovely cheeses and meats and scotch eggs and bits. I love a picky tea too!
My sore left ear I've had since Thursday is a lot worse - I rang the surgery and asked if could see a doctor - 'Oh No Mrs P you can have a phone call from a doctor though!' How hes going to look in my ear is beyond me! I expect if the doctor says they'll see me then there will be no appointments left
Well I'm going to get on with some jobs as I don't start work till lunchtime - hope everyone has a good day
TA - good to hear you have your granddaughters back for their bolognese bake!

Hi everyone,
I wrote a post yesterday but whether I got interrupted or there was a technical problem I don't know because it hadn't appeared when I looked later. Never mind it wasn't a particularly interesting post. Welcome to the newbies.
I had my booster yesterday, the moderna ad I have never had such a sore arm after a jab. I also had a high temp last night but hopefully that will be it with regard to side effects. I had to wait an hour, despite having an appointment, the place was full which I wasn't too comfortable with but hopefully the distancing and masks will have made it safe.
Steve's last day of isolation today, I've tried to isolate but have had to go out for essentials a couple of times and of course the booster yesterday. It's been easier to do because we've both been suffering from the horrendous cold and we are only just getting to the end of it. It has meant that the house has been a bit neglected because we are only managing to keep up with the essentials. We've also had very sketchy meals - porridge for dinner one night.
Enjoy the sleepover TA.
Have a good day everyone.

Good morning everyone
It's a lovely bright morning, I had a bit of a lie-in so feel very refreshed. I'm just waiting for the nurse to come and change my dressing and then I am going to organize the kitchen to fit my new stand mixer in.
I am expecting some more deliveries today so some wrapping up will be done. I also want to make some scones as some cream and jam arrived with the shopping.
Lee isn't very well as he is full of a cold so will be staying home today. Phoebe has the day off too so we have a full house today. I will crack the whip and get them doing a bit of tidying, I'm sure they will be thrilled.
I will cook some gammon steaks for dinner with chips and egg but for now, I need some breakfast so I hope you all have a lovely day whatever you are up to. Take care xx12
