Maybe he was annoyed at finding his daughter has taken up with someone who starts his sentences with 'So'.barnstar2077 said:So, I had lunch with my new lady friend and her father today.8 -
Don't forget that Major and Lamont reduced the dividend tax credit when they were chancellor before Brown finally abolished itFatherTireseus said:Well, in 1997, Gordon Brown as chancellor removed the dividend tax credit from pension funds. That was estimated to have cost pension schemes collectively around £5 billion.1 -
It is ironic that the father seems so interest in his pensions, when he has apparently never bothered to look at his pension statements.3

I feel your pain. Hope you're looking forward to a lengthy monologue about how it's now illegal to hold nativity plays in case they offend someone at your next lunch.barnstar2077 said:
Unfortunately I don't think that will be possible. From his daughters reaction, and the way he spoke, he only seems to have a few subjects at his disposal. I think limiting exposure will be the way forward : )Pablo7474 said:Good luck I say, maybe try and find a lighter conversation with him next time 😂

Heh heh!
My now sadly deceased Scottish FiL once invested in shares for the US Company I worked for....I had NOT made a recommendation at all, but he certainly took some dark pleasure over the following years frequently raising the topic of how I had "sold him a dud" 👀 (he bought rather closer to the top than bottom).
Eventually turned a profit in the end (phew!).
Go for the next meal armed with information about how you invested in <insert something, anything here> that has made <insert greater-then-10% annual growth> & done really well 🤣Plan for tomorrow, enjoy today!2 -
Insert “levelling up” & “track and trace was a resounding success” here - all governments have a very chequered history when it comes to their achievements…prowla said:It was just another stealth tax in the NuLab regime's grandiose "end to boom and bust" lie.1 -
Haha, my still with us Scottish FIL constantly blames me for causing him to sell a successful technology share just because I said you never know if a tech company will fall by the wayside even if they are a market leader. I was referring to Nokia, Blackberry etc when Apple came out with the iPhone.cfw1994 said:Heh heh!

So familiar. A client of mine, a Builder, is exactly the same. I've know him now for 10 years or so and without fail, at every single meeting he bleats on about how that ba****d Gordon Brown is responsible for robbing him of his pension and how he will be working into his 70's due to bl**dy Gordon Brown. He is absolutely fixated by it and simply doesn't realise or won't accept that his position is mainly due to his own failure to make adequate provision. Sad really.2

Let’s not forget windfall tax on “windfall profits”. Very popular at the time. And how energy companies got restructured. Working out wonderfully.0
