I am in a 6 week notice period with my current employer and I have 3 days annual leave left to take before year end
I need to take a day off for a medical appointment
Can they decline my leave request as I am on notice?
Thanks

No - they can decline it because it may be inconvenient for them to have you absent when you might be needed to train your replacement. Unlikely they will decline it otherwise (unless your manager is particularly spiteful of course) as it means one less day they have to pay you. But, actually, they could tell you that you must take them on any other the days that they want. Employers can totally dictate when holiday is taken. Given your are posting this, is there a reason you think they'll be awkward?Brie said:No - they can decline it because it may be inconvenient for them to have you absent when you might be needed to train your replacement. They either have to let you take the leave or pay you for accrued leave not taken at the date of your departure. So it seems unlikely they would reject a single day of leave when you have 3 to take anyway, unless they want to be difficult for the sake of it.1

That is not true. They can tell you when you have to take the leave. There is no "let" in the situation.DontBringBertie said:They either have to let you take the leave or pay you for accrued leave not taken at the date of your departure. As you are working your notice anyway they have nothing to gain by trying to stop you attending a medical appointment. They could even lay themselves open to a compensation claim in the event that serious illness failed to be diagnosed due to their refusal. Medical appointments are difficult to get and I would go irrespective of their agreement. Tell them you have a medical appointment on x date and won't be in, don't ask permission.
