Question re: bankruptcy and where I stand ?

My situation is that my very recently ex husband went bankrupt 2020 and was discharged recently in the last few months however in the process of the bankruptcy my ex gave back our house to the bank. I was not on the named mortgage however I did contribute to the deposit towards the house , paid towards the mortgage ( joint bank account and my wages were going into the mortgage paying account) I also had applied to the land registrary that the house couldn’t be sold without permission because of my daughter been under 16. Our house obviously had quite a-bit of equity in it and now my ex is stating that the insolvency service are asking about me because I may beable to make a claim. He’s very cloak and dagger about this and he won’t forward me the correspondences or give them my details. I was wondering if this was true and if I could make a claim as we were married and I did contribute from day one towards the house even though my name wasn’t on the mortgage. It would be great if I could because I feel that my husband has 💯 hoodwinked me and got himself sorted and debt free at the expense of myself and my daughter losing our home etc . He lost his job due to Covid during 2020 and I continued to work as a nurse and he told me it would be the best way forward to clear all the debt as I couldn’t do it alone on my income . Anyhow once he got discharged recently and himself a decent job again, he has then left me pretty much homeless and also in debt.

If I am able to make a claim on the house it would be the best thing ever and help me so much !

Thank you

Were you on the deeds at all?
When the house was bought, how was it bought? (Tenants in common etc?)
May you find your sister soon Helli.

  • Hi

Thank you for your reply but I was not on the deeds and we only had a verbal contract with each other “if we split any monies from the house we would split 50/50 . I’m pretty surprised that the insolvency are trying to contact me with regards to this as I thought that ship had sailed but my ex is telling me that they want to contact me as I might be able to claim some money back of the sale of the house . I’ve tired to google this but can’t seem to find any information with regards to this and my ex isn’t very forth coming with the emails he’s received .

look up his bankruptcy reference number and try and contact them yourself about your potential beneficial interest.

Search the bankruptcy and insolvency register - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
