Belfast Metropolitan College, (what used to be casltlereah college) run photography courses. I am in the middle of the GCSE one in night class at the moment. They are not specific to digital but out of the 16 in the class only 2 use film. I use a 350D myself btw.0

Depends on how 'into' it you want to go i'm finding Jodie's free course on offer below is honing my DSLR skills.

belfast college also does city and guilds courses which are a little more practical-based and a little less theory than gcse/a-levels0

I am thinking of running a short course in DSLR photography. I have 25 years experience in photography, 12 years as professional. The course will be run from a community center on the Ormeau Road opposite the Park. One night a week, 2 hours long.
Sitting behind a desk is not a option! HANDS ON IS THE NAME OF THE GAME.
I have yet to confirm dates yet but I will keep you in formed.0 -

Online video tutorials are free and widely available on Tinterweb thingy;)
But to be quiet honest pick your camera up, get out and about and use it;) the ONLY way to learn is practice, practice a bit more practice and learning by your mistakes, do not fear your camera, it is simply an extension of your eyes and brain, a tool for a job;)
I started as a trainee photographer 18 years ago, first day on the job the boss handed me a camera and sent me out into the big bad world to take photographs, now I don't know if he was a lazy sod or he wanted me to learn the hard way by my mistakes:rotfl: but I'm still doing it now so it must have worked:rotfl:
I did do a few city and guilds courses in my first coupe of years but I ended up teaching the class as the tutor was useless:o I've heard similar stories at other education facilities too:o
Remember these days you are shooting digital, it cost nowt to take a shot and not use it:T:T:T
Check for local camera clubs in your area too, these will teach you a lot more than any photography course will ever teach you.I am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:0 -
steveymp - cunninghamsarah's post is over 2 year's old.
GordonJohnston is dredging it up to advertise his services. Isn't that banned on this forum? :eek:0 -

Yep a bit naughty with the advert indeed
But hopefully I have put anyone off taking courses:rotfl:join a camera club for free and practice:jI am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:0 -

Sorry i am new to these forums. Steveymp is 100% spot on.
His story is very similar to my own.
Camera Clubs are not free, they charge membership fees, £35/£40 for 10 months of the year. There never is a free lunch.
Sorry again, I just spotted the small print at top of the page.

Go out and take shots, indulge yourself, learn as you're doing. There are people who'll tell you all about RAW files and how to do things who've never sold or even taken a good picture in their lives. The best photographers are almost always self taught, and the real craft after that is bluffing. My advice is invest in lenses and equipment (and programs.. and printers) slowly. Its a very easy hobby to be overwhelmed with.0

I'd also be interested in any local/Belfast based courses.0
