Employee Benefits & Tax Calculations During a Redundancy Year

Quick question to the floor please.....

I was made redundant in Sept 2020, I have recently got my 2020-21 Tax Calculation from HMRC, in there under the Income is my Medical Insurance with my former employer, now to best of my knowledge I have not received a P11D from my former employer (I am chasing that up separately)  - I received the other paperwork correctly, it appears the figure used was the same as the 2019-20 P11D figure for Med Insurance.

Question is whether the Medical Insurance amount on my tax calculation should be pro-rata as I was only receiving the benefit for 6 months? e.g. if the full amount is £2000 it should only show £1000.

Thanks in advance

  • It should be whatever your (former) employer reported to HMRC.

Maybe HMRC have estimated £2,000 in the absence of a P11D?

Either way you will presumably need to get a P11D from your employer and them HMRC will revise the calculation to reflect that.
