in Cutting tax
Hi there,
I havent had much dealing with the Tax office much even though I have been working (and paying tax thru PAYE) for the last 3 years.
I left my previous job last Dec and only started with a new one this April. Since then I received a P45 form from my previous employer showing the amount of money I got paid & tax paid between 4/04 ~ 12/04.
I also received a PAYE coding notice from IR in Jun regrading my new code for tax year 05/06; unfortunately when I looked at the my April & May payslip, my tax code is BR.
First of all, I think too much have been deducted from during my previous employment (or for tax year 04/05). How do I get the overpaid tac back from IR?
Secondly, am I supposed to get a P60 from my current employer as I only started on 1 April 2005?
I am single and salary is my only income, so it should be rather straight forward case. And my salary defnitely does not put me in the 40% tax band, so I dont expect a tax return form from the IR.
I need some advices on how do I claim back the overpaid tax.
BTW, my previous employment is in Belfast and my current employment is in Cambridge. Does it matters which particular tax office I correspond with?
Thanks in advanced

If you phone your tax office, (most of them have call centre's) and explain they can change your code there and then, whcih means any tax you have overpaid will be refunded to you in your next pay ( assuming your employer gets the code in time to operate it).
As for last year if you stopped work in December and did not resume until April - you may be due a refund of tax. You should have received a P45 from your last employer. You need to send this to your tax office along with details of any Jobseekers Allowance you claimed during that period. Just send the P45 and P60 u (if you claimed beneifts) to you tax office . If you did not claim any benefits confirm this in your letter - it will save them writing back to you to check this.
Good Luck! :TNo Longer addicted to Boots! - Well not today anyway!! :blushing:
