O/S Daily Thursday 4 November 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Still dark, but temperature has really dropped and air feels cool.
DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was gammon, egg, chips and beans/salad. DS1 had fish and rice. I remembered to get the chicken out to defrost so tonight we'll be having Dumplings and Italian seasoned chicken.
Work wasn't too bad yesterday and enjoyed my afternoon off, I got some jobs done that I wanted to get done. Last working day for this week, and off until Monday.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Another dry day, could get used to this! It's mighty cold but lovely and clear, may have to clear then windscreen again, the ice was quite thick yesterday. Just off for a swim and running a bit late as usual.
Nothing much to report from here, life is ticking along. Didn't do the curtains last night but watched the GBBO instead and had a good long chat with DS1.
Have a good day, take care. XX14 -
Morning all.
Thanks for the thread nmlc and hugs to all those in need.
Same old same old yesterday, did nothing apart from housework, Beano is having very short walks as Steve is coming with us. We all could do with longer walks but Steve refused to walk for more than a few minutes.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.16 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. A bright day forecast here too but it's mighty nippy. Yesterday was quite pleasant and we wandered around browsing before our lunch and didn't feel at all cold.
No gallivanting today - unless taking Sparkle to the vets is classed as gallivanting! We were only there a fortnight ago but he wanted to review her in two weeks this time. DD is picking us up at the start of the school run and I'm hoping she doesn't morph into Psycho Cat and make them all late! Last time was quite painless, I managed to ram her in the carrier before she knew what was happening and neither did she take her wrath out on the vet. Can we be so lucky again!
There will be cleaning to do when we get back as nowhere has been touched all week. I may soon change my profile name to Miss Havisham!
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for the poorlies, poorly loved ones and MIA. Take care one and all x"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"16 -
Morning all
Cold but bright here but no frost today which is nice, off to work today and the annoying manager is coming in later today so I have some respite this morning !
Another person at work has tested positive yesterday so we are very short staffed, it seems to be going through everyone atm, I am helping out where I can but am still on light duties so have to be careful.
Spoke to Nels last night and she is moving bak to rehab today which is much btter for her and she can start on her physio again, which is fab news, and she gets her own bedroom there which is better than being on a ward.
HM soup and crusty bread for dinner tonight, soup will just need heating through, dw needs emptying and I have put a wash on this morning.
Have good days all and stay safe xxx16 -
Good Morning all,
I hope you are all doing well.Yesterday was a good day, I am beginning to feel slightly better, plus my parents were well. When dad is telling corny jokes I know he is feeling stronger in himself, and mum was busy reading the Times and doing the crossword/puzzles in Times 2, and as a nearly ninety year old stroke sufferer I find this encouraging.
Today is the online food shop arriving for both myself and the parents. Normally, I try to split the shops as I find it difficult to unload more than 40 items now they arrive without bags. Today though, I have 79 items due to arrive, so I have my IKEA bags at the ready! The drivers are very kind and helpful though and up to now have been very patient. Then it is off to the parents with their shopping to unload and pack away.
Afterwards, I wish to set up a new mobile phone monthly contract as it will be cheaper than using the landline. I was amazed to discover that a minimum call charge on the landline was 45p, even if I was only on the phone for less than a minute. Not much else planned for today. Just the usual laundry, vacuuming etc.
Take care all.

Good morning everyone
It's freezing sat here with the back door open, hurry up doggies!
I had a busy day yesterday as I had an appointment at the hospital at 9.30 so we left an hour earlier. Steve was allowed to come in with me and sat and held my hand through the procedure. The doctor wants me to come back for another hysteroscopy but after talking it through with Steve I have decided to have no further treatment as I find the whole experience very traumatic. Plus even if they find something, I am far too high risk for surgery and far too fat to fit in a scanner. I am at peace with my decision so will contact the hospital today to tell them not to bother making me any further appointments.
Yesterday was also my lovely Steve's birthday so we celebrated with a steak dinner cooked by my own fair hands and a mince pie and icecream. I bought him a new fancy schmancy dash cam for our car and he was over the moon.
Today is leftover day as we have lots of tubs of stuff to use up in the fridge. I also bought a copy of the Dairy Book of Home Cooking published in the early 70's and will be trying a few of their baking recipes. I have lost my knitting mojo for a bit so this will be a fun distraction. I have also messaged Lilly to see if she wants to come here for dinner sometime soon. I have a hankering to make a big pot of chilli with all the sides.
Hope you all have a lovely day whatever you are up to, take care all xx14 -
Morning folks. No stars visible last night as it was very cloudy. Yesterday was another glorious but extremely chilly and dry day, today maybe the same. After I posted yesterday morning I got another email from E.Onsaying that my direct debit had failed again 😱 this time I phoned the bank and hung on for an agent which took 30 minutes. He confirmed that the DD was active and no attempt had been made to draw money down. So, another call to E.On which was very frustrating as the chap was very evasive about what was going on and wasn't keen on me raising a complaint.I drove into town to buy a yummy fresh loaf from the wee deli. They get deliveries from Glasgow once a week. I've cut it up and it's now in the freezer. This morning I've got an appointment with my GP which won't take long then I'll snuggle down again.Lovely news about Nels 👏
TA - good luck with Sparkle!Peony - I hope you get some help with the shopping.Ruby - no word on the interview yet? It's horrible making you wait so long.My thoughts are with the missing and poorlies. Happy Thursday to all.13 -

Morning all, it's a lovely day but boy is it cold, even with the sun out it's 4 only degrees.I'm up early as I have a GP phone consult this morning some time between 8am and 12, so I shall be walking about with my phone within reach all the time and not much will get done this morning, what's the betting it will ring when I'm in the loo 😲 Wish we could go back to face to face appointments instead of this waiting about lark, I knew where I was then. I'm so glad I have my jigsaw to occupy my time.I read on my old school faceache page that another of my old teachers has passed away, the Latin teacher this time, he was such a gentleman. I'll ring Dad tonight and tell him the sad news as they have been pals since they were youngsters and we always chatted with him when we met in town. Also a school friend has gone this week, brings it home that I'm not immortal when he's the same age as me 😟I have a gammon joint to slow cook today and that's all that's on the "To do" list for today, oh and empty the dw when it's done it's thing.Right lovelies I'm off for some brekkie, I feel it's going to be a long day. I'll have a pain au chocolate I think, normally I just have a cuppa and a biscuit, I'm not a breakfast person nor a morning person either if I'm truthful.Hope everyone has a good day, hugs to the poorly ones. Nels 😘 Take care all, stay safe and warm.nan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently12

Hi everyone,
We're back from our usual Wednesday jaunt to look after Esben. In fact we went down on Tuesday evening so that we were there earlier to look after him. It made the drive a lot easier as well, for some reason Wednesday mornings on the A1,M25,M11 are a bit of a nightmare (I know it's a horrible route but we usually are quite lucky so ;ong as we don't travel in rush hour).
We found a new park (well Laura found it but I took him for the first time). It had a wall obviously just built for children to walk along and after a couple of times of walking, then running along it holding my hand he decided he could do it by himself - it was about a foot wide so he was quite safe. Laura seems to have got on top of the meal problems she was having with him (touch wood) by sticking to a regular schedule and cutting down on snacks, it's not rocket science but things had slipped when he was ill and not wanting to eat, it's very easy to fill them up on things they will eat and while it's nothing too bad (he has a passion for rice cakes) he had started to refuse his main meals.
Any way we're back home and my plan for today is to go food shopping and then cook for the weekend. I want to make JO's Sicilian butternut squash and chickpea stew, an aubergine parmigiana lasagne and a big pan of scouse, maybe some soup as well. Then on Friday morning I will bake a cake and some biscuits for Esben's birthday. The whole family are going to Whipsnade on Saturday and then back to ours for a birthday tea. On Sunday L & B are having a party in a local pub room but we won't go because we then have to isolate before Steve's eye surgery,
Good news about Nelski, Ruby. Do you know when you will hear about the job?
I hope you manage the vet trip without too much damage TA.
Have a good day.12
