  • I'm in the process of applying for annualised leave to bring my net pay down to very close to what I expect from drawdown. 12 months of that should hopefully prove that I'm ready to drop my hours to 0% The biggest problem being lasting those 12 months without telling my boss, and his boss, that they can take their job and....
  • Rather than one more year, how many have taken part time roles? I can see that the structure a part time job would bring to a less busy week, may be as important  as additional income.

  • I reduced to part time in August, doing the same work in three days rather than 4 days, but one of the projects is naturally expiring so minimal work. My days off Mon/ Fri have the calendar blanked as non working days so I’m not invited to meeting.

Major issue is getting through all my emails from the F/M on a Tuesday, sometimes it’s the end of the week. Never mind.

However, it’s great but make sure you plan to do something on those days off, a walk, mountain climb or cycle does it for me.

You don't need to do that, if you don't want and if you have some self discipline. Just open a savings account and transfer the excess money in there so you never see it. If it's an account with restricted access, so much the better.
  • She's looking hot and Marlot, have had a phased retirement. Anybody retired, then taken part time work and not with their former employer? Something completely different. A change is as good as a rest scenario, a clear distinction from their previous working life ?

Yes, I retired at 55 and then returned to part time paid work for a charity at 59
Same job title, equivalent to 75% cut in hourly rate but so much fun and none of the office politics, company speak etc.
And seeing the difference we make to peoples lifes is priceless
  • I'm trying to envisage what working in something rewarding would be like. With remuneration being of secondary importance.
Can working on your terms  ie part time, stress free and enjoyable . Could this enhance "retirement". For the majority of posters on this forum, retirement means a sudden stop or phased down with the same employer.
For Paspatur part time work is a positive thing.

It seems from Paspatur's post that maybe the part time charity job, is in a similar field to the previous full time job. ( I have assumed this as 'same job title' was mentioned )
Probably if you had no past relevant experience to bring to a charity , then they would probably suggest that you did unpaid volunteer work  instead .
  • I resigned at 49, pension provision is mostly sorted.  Just started a driving job FTC for a national retailer and loving it on a minimum 20 hour contract but will be more over Xmas.  Job is full of older guys who's retired and were bored.

I would warn that there are not gazillions of part time interesting jobs out there.  A lot of care work,  factory and food processing, warehousing etc.  And for better looking jobs even though they might be near minimum wage, often looking for relevant experience.  There obviously are opportunities but it can be hard work finding them
