Debt collection for personal debt

I stupidly loaned someone a huge amount of money (I know, I know, I was an idiot).  He's been promising to pay me money for so long, even shows me his bank balance but doesn't send it.  My question is, is it worth getting someone to 'put the frighteners' on him?  A burly debt collector would possibly put the fear of God in him.  Has anyone tried this?  I'm in an awful situation because of this and life is getting unbearable.

  • That would be silly. You go down the small claims court route after sending a final 30 day letter to him.

There are tracing agents who will give you the last address they have for him. Not expensive and you add the cost to the amount claimed.

So where are you going to tell Mr. Kneecap to go to collect the debt?
Assuming this post is not a wind-up, small claims is the way to go, as per the previous reply.  Try to take matters into your own hands and you'll find yourself in a whole heap of trouble.
