Chrome book or laptop for child?

Looking for some advice please. I’d like to get my daughters a laptop or chrome book for Christmas. My daughters have mentioned that they’ve used chrome books in school and during lockdown they borrowed two chrome books from the school to do their home learning from which were quite good. 

I don’t know an awful lot about chrome books or whether a laptop would be better. My girls would mainly use them to play games on such as Minecraft and Roblox. 

They currently use my Apple Mac laptop to play these games but my MacBook gets very hot and you can hear the fan working overtime while they’re playing games on it. It also runs the battery down very quickly so I’m not sure if a chrome book or a laptop would be more suitable. I’d also like it to have Microsoft Word etc.

My girls are 9 almost 10 years old. Can anyone offer any advice on what would be best, a chrome book or a laptop? Thank you.

Chomebook's are basically just the chrom browser and will just run the same things, so apps are all web apps.

As such it will just run the online word (which may be fine for your needs).

They also run android apps. So can run the word android app but microsoft are discopuraging it's use and you will get constant notices to use the web app version.

Gettign hot and running the battery down means the games are demanding and would be the same (or worse if on a cheap chromebook) if they would even run, which having no experience of them I could not say.

£600ish would buy a half decent windows laptop that would run games ok. But again it will certainly nopt work on the batteryu for long (and really should not for gaming as it will not be working at full power).
