O/S Daily Friday 29 October 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Still dark, dry underfoot, air feels chilly again.
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early. DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was piri piri chicken, with pasta in creamy tomato sauce, and veg rice, DH complained I ignored. Tonight will be something quick, possibly breaded chicken, chip and beans for the menfolk. I'll probably have fishcakes or omelette and salad.
Yesterday work wasn't too bad, although the impact of staff leaving and some sickness is having an effect on the rest of the team, next week I should be having time off in lieu of working a day I don't normally work, and I can't have it until another time because there's not enough staff. Also next week I'm working later 1 day doing a job I shouldn't be doing again as there's not enough staff. This is what happens when staff are not treated right, they leave or go off sick! I'm working on Saturday also - so very much looking forward to my time off in a couple of weeks.
Keep safe and well x

Morning all.
Thanks for the thread nmlc and hugs to all those in need.
Nmlc, I'm sorry work is carp, it's horrible not being valued at work.
We've made it to the marina, the trip took twice as long as it should as there were boaters moored two abreast on the lock landing, this made it very difficult to get into the lock. Plus there was another boater who wouldn't help with the lock and left me to do all the work.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester.Chin up, Titus out.12 -
Morning all
Pouring with rain here and set in for the day I think, work has been so busy all week so I wonder if today will be quieter due to the weather. Its going to be very muddy in thw woods where they hold the event !!
Off to work today and soup and crusty bread for dinner tonight its all made so will just need heating through. I did an online shop for a click and collect for tomorrow so will go and collect it or maybe ask OH to do it
DW to empty this morning and another wash to go on, it can go in the td once I am home.
I started my Xmas shopping last night I am usually about done by now so im a bit late this year, I think going back to work has thrown me a bit and its taking a while to get into a routine.
Cant remember who asked but Nels only has her phone so she reads the daily when she can but is not really up to posting atm, she does appreciate all your good wishes though xxx
Right better get on with my day, have good days all xx12 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. We escaped the torrential rain that was forecast for us yesterday, we just got light stuff, and will be the same today. Still very mild though it's warmer out than in!
The boring Friday Tidyis on the agenda today and, as the painting never happened yesterday, maybe it will today. I am a step nearer though, the emulsion and brushes have got as far as the landing in readiness! I am lacking energy, motivation and enthusiasm.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all in need. Thinking of our poorlies, poorly loved ones and MIA. Take care one and all and be safe x

Morning folks.Ruby - it was me who asked about Nelski, it's sad that she hasn't got a tablet, reading on a phone is such a pain. Anyway, get better soon Nels!
Yesterday I did a Halloween shop. I'm only expecting three young boys so got an assortment of sweeties and apples. In the afternoon I sat down with the seed / bulb catalogues left by my friend. My mind is boggled by the huge number of varieties, tulips had a book all to themselves. 😆 I couldn't choose at all so have decided to just get some bog standard bulbs this year and get them in pots pronto. So that will be the task today if the weather keeps dry enough.Recently I disposed of the many plastic takeaway boxes which were cluttering up one of my kitchen cupboards, they were just a blooming nuisance. Now I've bought some glass containers with lids to replace them, they arrived yesterday and I'm very pleased with them. Now I need to start my day. Hugs and thoughts to all our missing and poorlies. Happy Friday to all.13 -
Good morning, dark and damp here, but not cold.Work sounds grim NMLC.Hester, sorry to hear you had a few problems when you moved - you can only hope that the person who wouldn't help you with the lock has the favour returned to him, it'll be karma.Ruby, Nels sounds really poorly, I hope she'll feel better soon.DD and the children came for lunch yesterday and stayed for the afternoon. It was nice to see her properly as you might say - we've both been away quite a bit and have just had quck chats. She hasn't a car at the moment, and it's proving difficult to find a decent second hand one, her OH works in the car business as well, and knows about these things, but still they've had no luck. Not much happening today , just the usual jobs. I'm going to go to Newcastle next week, I've got a list that I keep adding to for Christmas. DD gave me some ideas yesterday for the chlidren, so that's a help.Thinking of our poorly people today, and hope everyone has a good day. Take care folks.13

Morning all, & thanks nmlc- hope your day is better, you too Hester, sounds like some people were being a bit thoughtless on the canal.I was up much earlier than normal as DH and DS had to be at work early to take a delivery.Didn't mind as my back is playing up. Can't take DDog out yet, it's too dark for her
but I do need to pop a card in the post box for collection at 9.
RRuby please pass on my good wishes to Nels when you next speak.I haven't got a delivery booked this week so I visited the nearest sm as I wanted to replenish my baking supplies yesterday. I was minding DGS until lunchtime, we had a lovely time mainly doing art, but I also had help making krispie cakes. DB also called so they had a chat about footballThere is none this weekend so we might get a lie in
I think I will cook some salmon tonight for tea, I usually do it in the Remoska, it doesn't take long, and I've got some baby potatoes too. I keep looking at my cake recipes, I have to take some next week to my cousins but can't decide what, it's ages since I did a proper cake.Still looks dark out so I'll give pooch her breakfast first. Have a good day all:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. (Eleanor Roosevelt)12 -
Good morning,
Pouring down here🌧🌧. I did have a better night's sleep 😴 last night. I'm up, showered and out, waiting for a friend to finish her nightshift to have coffee ☕ and a chat before she goes to bed☺
No other fixed plans for today although there's always housework if I get desperate 😂😂
Have a good day🌻9 -
Morning everyone
Just a quickie as I have little great nephew arriving soon for the day. He is 4 now and lovely company. We were booked to go on a short boat trip but it was cancelled yesterday because of the weather. Shame as it's not raining this morning and he was looking forward to it.
We'll go into town later aas we're meeting may mam for lunch and I need a couple of things.
Oh there he is
Have a good day everone9 -
Morning, hugs if you need one.
It is just light and no more, heavy grey clouds and the wind is something else. DGS is coming this morning to move the TV over, first part of us decorating and moving the bedroom round. Chap from the carpet shop came, Nice weight carpet at least £400 cheaper than the other one and also his chaps can cope without us having to take the bed down, we just have to strip it and take the mattress off, they will work round it.
No plans, expect I will be entertaining Little Miss as she is coming 'to help daddy'. I wonder what new language she has picked up now.
Supper tonight is fish and chips....no dessert.6 -
Morning all, we had storms all night, torrential rain lashing the windows and very windy. Thank goodness it's calmer today but still prone to heavy rain showers. We were both up at stupid o'clock today and just hanging about waiting for another O*en Reach engineer, the second one in less than 2 weeks. Seems they thought last time that dropping our speeds again has fixed the problem. Nooooo !! 🤬 Even Mr Fix It is losing his patience and he's the calm reasonable one.Our living room to kitchen door handle has broken too, Clumsy Clara strikes again 🥺 but I think there is a spare one in the cupboard under the stairs as we had to buy a pack. My goal today is to find the new handle and write some shopping lists, one for a normal shop and another for a winter stock up. I am also waiting for a delivery of my jigsaws, I couldn't decide which one to choose so I bought all 3, naughty nan 🤭 They should see me through the winter hopefully, well at least till xmas.Tea yesterday turned out to be corned beef stew and not beef casserole, so I cooked some potatoes, mashed them and made corned beef hash. There's enough left over for me tonight but himself will have something else from the freezer.Hope everyone is safe and dry, take care and hugs to all.nan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently8
