A question about Payplan

Hi

As some of you may know I have recently ended my CCCS DMP (long story) and my Payplan DMP is due to start at the end of this month.

I returned a call from Payplan today - the voicemail said they needed to discuss the paperwork they sent me. Fair enough.

I got through to Client Services and it all seemed normal, asking if I had returned the letter of authority etc. At least until the advisor started trying to sell me car insurance!

She started saying how Payplan have sister companies that do car insurance etc and would I like her to pass my details to them so they can call me and set me up on a policy. She then also started pushing Payplan's repayment cover which I really don't want - I'd prefer all my money to go to my debts. But it took about 5 minutes of saying "I don't want it" before she let it go.

Is this normal? I thought Payplan was supposed to be like CCCS ie. a non-profit company. To be honest, I'm now starting to regret my decision to go with them...

Any advice appreciated as usual

Oh wow - never heard of that before, but maybe someone who is with Payplan will have more experience. Could you put a complaint in? I think that's really out of order when people are down and have serious debts - they don't need a hard sell over the phone.

  • It just disturbed me cos I didn't think they would do that.

I'm making token payments at the moment and when I called Droyds last night to pay my £5, the advisor was really nice and said that he thought I'd made a mistake by leaving CCCS as in his experience Payplan were quite slack and caused more problems than they solved :(

    Very worried now :(

Oh dear - did you have a bad experience with CCCS then? Sorry if I've missed it all on another thread!

  • Can't praise Payplan enough.

I saw that they have repayment insurance but did not know about car insurance. Did you declare that you had car insurance on your list, were they perhaps trying to make sure you were insured.

I would certainly email or write to them and ask them not to do that again but to be honest we were on the phone to them a couple of times recently and they did not mention it. I only know about the new things they can offer when I went on the Justabank site to check how much we owe and it is on there that it is available.

Perhaps you had someone new who did not understand, I would hope so anyway.
  • Ive been with payplan for nearly two years now and have never had a problem...only twice have they tried to speak to me about an IVA but ive insisted thats not the route i want to go down :)
  • Hiya I'm with Homework in that I can't praise Payplan enough ....... they've never mentioned any kind of insurance to me, nor tried to sway my decision either way between a dmp or iva.

In fact, I've just had a nightmare of a time with Northern Rock and Payplan have been fantastic (see the dmp mutual support thread if you're interested in the details).

My Account manager is lovely and anytime I need to speak to her I just email and they call back pretty quickly.

I honestly dont know what I'd have done without them - I really dread to think. They've been absolutely on the ball with everything and I've never had to gee them up ....... for me they've been spot on!

I would definitely ring in and mention the 'hard sell' you received ..... its not good and I'm sure it would put a lot of people off using them, which is a shame because they can help so much.
