How to ask for a pay rise?

I started my current role just over 2 years ago, and I have had nothing but positive feedback since. I started work for a local authority as I had experience within housing management and the LA had recently built a housing scheme and had no one within the organisation had the knowledge of how to manage it. Since then we have grown as a team and directorate and acquired a number of properties to let for different purposes, which have been added to my workload, and a new scheme will be opening in the summer, for which I will also be responsible.
Given the length of time that I have been in post, the feedback I have received, and increasing workload, would it be prudent of me to consider asking for a review of my current salary, perhaps moving to the top of my pay grade or re-scaling?
I have never done this before and am not familiar with how people go about it and I don’t want to come across as entitled, but what I do now is a far cry from the job description that I applied for and I am happy in my role, but feel that my current salary is not reflective of the responsibility I carry.
I would love to have peoples thoughts and experiences of this sort of thing.

The formal process is to ask for a job evaluation. Nothing else can be done in a local authority. They sometimes do result in a regrading. But I wouldn't hold my breath on the outcome though, as they often don't.
If you are in a union they can guide you through it and how to make the best argument.0
