Hi, Council Tax Claims for the wrong band will never work if your property had not been sold before the bands came into force. I live in a street that many people stay in for decades and never sell. My house I bought a few years ago had not been sold since the 70's. When I challenged my band as my neighbours properties were bigger and in a lower band they simply refused point blank to even investigate. In fact the 20 house either side of me are in bands A-F for similar houses. That cannot be right but no chance to challenge due to people never selling.

I'm ex VOA and dealt with plenty of appeals and requests for band reductions where there were no sales. Some that had good grounds for a reduction were successful.


I would suggest you write an emotionless, fact filled letter to your MP and ask that they take this up with the VOA. Although the VOA are used to brushing off MP enquiries, if their attention has been drawn to apparent banding inconsistencies, they will have to investigate.
