Possible arm nerve damage due to leg elevation?

Hi all. Basically I've got some extra fluid in my ankles due to sitting down for the best part of a year due to work.

I thought I'd elevate my legs to improve the situation. What happened was, I did it for about 30-40 mins but at the same time I was using my tablet to pass the time.

It was a pretty awkward way of doing this, and a few hours later I noticed my arms beginning to tingle and feel as if they're were going numb.

So is how I did what I did, basically the cause of the problem?

If so, how long would it normally take for the situation to get better?

Thanks.

It is probably better to get up and go for a walk to get rid of the fluid build-up than just sit.

It is unlikely that sitting in one position would cause nerve damage in half an hour. You may need to have a chat with your doctor about your circulation if it occurs again, or if the tingling is ongoing.

  • I could sense something was wrong whilst I was elevating my legs. The blood was literally rushing down my arms and as I mentioned, this was for about half an hour.

I'm sure this has had a pretty negative effect on my limbs.

As  you've said, I think I'll stick to general excercise from now on. I just hope it doesn't take that long for the nerves in my arms to go back to what they were before I did the whole debacle.

How were you elevating your legs? And how were you holding your tablet?

Up against the wall, and the tablet in my hands. Hope you can picture it.

L shape position, but holding your tablet and possibly cranking your neck to view it?

    Or

L shape position, holding your tablet in the air with your head / neck flat and inline with your spine?

    And now you know why.
See your doctor if you're concerned and look up things to do with posture, it's quite easy to mess it up especially with things like phones and tablets.

I know. But not sure what the GP's going to say except to say rest your limbs.

This is what the forum rules say about medical advice:

    "Medical advice

However well-intentioned, avoid seeking and/or offering medical advice, as it could result in unwanted consequences for all concerned."

So, as others have said, if you are concerned at all, you really do need to consult your GP because we're not supposed to give you any advice at all.

They may offer suggestions. You could always have a chat with a pharmacist as they may recommend a few things.

It's up to you how long you wait until speaking with someone, especially as you're concerned.
