DMP on hold

Options
Hello everyone, I'm just posting here to make myself feel better about not being able to keep up with my payments.  Firstly furlough forced me to reduce them and now after starting back full-time this month, my job looks very iffy.  The company gas been hit so hard by Brexit and lost over a third of its income from the EU.  I haven't contacted anyone to let them know I'm back at work because I thought just until christmas it would be great to build up a small emergency fund as Stephange never advised me to do this and I've really struggled the last 3 years without it.  I'm only paying a minimal amount now and it worries me.

    Hi Barbie

Sorry to hear you're struggling. This may be better off in the debt free wannabe board as they can advise on what you need to inform the organisation who have arranged your DMP. Is it worth proactively starting a job hunt now for somewhere more likely to weather brexit?

Have you just organised one now or have you been paying one pre-pandemic?
If you've just organised one now, you can pay as little as a pound to each creditor while you are organising yourself about really exactly what you can afford, not just what you think you can afford. Don't be afraid to use your income on your own family and home first and then the bills. There are very few bills that will land you in court if you don't pay, but rent/mortgage must be paid, and council tax must be paid. Anything else is just fluff.
Go to the debt free wannabe board, there's a sticky thread about dmps, worth reading some experiences just to reassure yourself you're not the worst person in the world because youre not paying some made up number back....
It can be frightening and scary and stressful and make you feel horrible when you confront a thing you've not had to before, but hopefully, when you read a few more stories and see exactly what you can do, the fear will go a bit and you'll be able to treat this with more distance and less worry.
