O/S Daily Sunday 24 October 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Now getting light, dry and blustery again.
DH watching catchup tv, I'm enjoying my first cuppa and a brekkie bar. DS1 still in his pit. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was spatchcock pirpiri chicken, savoury rice and pasta in a tomato sauce, enjoyed by us. Today it's roast beef etc.
I'm going for a shower shortly then will start food prep for today and the upcoming work week, did this last Sunday and had a clear plan/menu and it was so much help during the week - will endeavour to do this each week as it just takes the stress out of the week day nights when I get in from work. Today will be a chilled day other than that.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Thanks for the start nmlc, I applaud your organisation.
Ended up being quite busy yesterday, the weather stayed dry long enough to get 3 loads of washing just about dry, 15 mins in the TD and it was ready to put away, put the bedding back on and it smelled lovely and fresh. Also planted some tulip bulbs I had forgotten about in a big tub, looking forward to seeing the flowers in spring.
Swim this morning then taking my neighbour to Costco, it'll probably be quite busy as it's a wet day. I could do with some dishwasher tabs so will stock up whilst they are on offer. Apart from that I don'tneed anything but will probably spend a fortune anyway!
Great snowfolk Florence!
Hugs to those in need, take care. XX10 -
Morning folks. Thanks for starting us off nmlc.Yesterday the coffee catch up with crossword friend was really good. He's a rather staid older gentleman who has his routines which don't include going to Waitr*se for coffee! Anyway, we had a lovely chat and then I took him to his place which is in the same street that DM lived. It was a touch weird to see a light on in 'her' living room, but only for a moment. The other day I watched a clip of Tom Kerridge making lasagna- he first washed the mince and then spread it on a baking tray (without oil) to roast for about 30 minutes. It came out looking very shrivelled but, after adding all the other stuff in the usual layers and cooking it, the meat looked as if it had rehydrated. Has anyone used this method? I'd be interested to know if it really works and makes the meat more tasty.Today will be one of rest apart from making a big pot of chilli meat sauce which doesn't take much prep.Good vibes to our poorlies and missing. Happy Sunday to all.11

Morning all well i am the only one up DS was working till 4am so won't see him till later DH still in bed after yesterdays disaster with the decorating he managed to hit a water pipe as things hadn't been done properly according to him for the plumbing in the downstairs en suite so all day with the water on and off didn't make for a great day followed by my roofer letting me know the supplier hasn't got the vellux windows in he sent me an email but as long as he keeps me informed then i am ok with that .Last night i felt a bit fed up nothing seems to be finished the windows and doors, the roof ,Probate, the carpenter can't even get a quote from the supplier for the lounge cupboards as the price of oak is fluctuating so much and supply is patchy still the internal doors are in and hopefully he will be sending me the drawing of the internals for the bedroom wardrobes so that can be ordered still haven't heard from the landscaper but he did say he hoped the driveway could be done in October but not which year !!!!
Right enough maudlin and moaning DD1 and her BF are coming for lunch and then i am off to a friends to collect some bits later this afternoon otherwise a normal Sunday for us
Have a good day whatever you are up to stay safe xxSlava Ukraini11 -

Thanks for the thread nmlc and hugs to all those in need.
I've not posted for a few days as I couldn't access the thread.
We're having breakfast at a cafe this morning as we are moored beside it then I'm cooking roast lamb.
Have a good day everyone.

Hi everyone,
We had a whistlestop visit to Pembrokeshire, staying in Newport near Cardiff each way to break the journey and now we are off to the Yorkshire house for the week. I shall be glad to stay in one place for a little while. L, B and E will be at the house when we get there but are then going on to Glasgow to see B's mum. They are trying to get up there as much as they can as his mum is still very poorly. They'll come back to Yorkshire for a couple of days at the end of the week.
So this morning will be packing and leaving but hopefully I'll have a bit more time to post over the next few days.11 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. We had the most glorious sunrise over the moors earlier but sadly it didn't last and we now have mizzle, to be followed by cloud for the rest of the day. Milder though so that's something! Just as I was opening the blinds I spotted a sparrow hawk flying low and zooming down, just out of my sight, onto something just round the corner. They were once a regular sight but are now few and far between. Maybe they are finding tastier morsels on the moors.
I have had a hair dye waiting in the bathroom for a week and could never be arrised to do it but first thing this morning I finally got rid of the skunk look! And that's only because the hairdresser is due to come tomorrow!
GERS I have never heard of that trick with mince before but if you try it let us know. But somehow I can imagine just why it would work. I have some of the mince I cooked last week out defrosting to make another cottage pie for my lunch with an assortment of veg. The winter meals are back on the menu!
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for the poorlies, poorly loved ones and MIA. Take care one and all and keep safe xx

Morning everyone Bella I feel your pain we moved into this house 12 weeks ago everything had to be put on hold as my husband was isolating before getting his knee operation then op was cancelled so we tried to get everything done then he had to isolate again as it was all going ahead so we cancelled everyone then the roof started leaking pouring down the walls where the fitted wardrobes would have been thankfully they hadn’t been fitted or we wouldn’t have seen it and all the clothes would have been wet roof has now been done wardrobes are getting fitted this Thursday still waiting for window fitter to get back to me with a date I have bought wallpaper and paint but decorator is fully booked it’s very frustrating but I just keep thinking it will get done eventually 🤞we have loads of other jobs to do but I need to save the money some we are doing ourselves it’s never ending really.dog has been walked it’s a lot milder today but not warm nice piece of pork is in the oven we will have later general cleaning and tidying today otherwise not doing a lot have a good day everyone whatever you are doing11

Morning all
Dry and bright here but its still chilly, the washing should dry well today. I washed all the sofa throws and blankets yesterday they have been on the airer overnight in the lounge we lit the log burner last night so they are mainly dry I shall give them a quick turn in the td and then put them back on.
Going to get the spuds and veg done this morning and then get out for a walk, we have pork this week which is OH's favourite I shall do enough for tomorrow too. I have some pasta sauce in the freezer HM and some soup which will do for a couple of dinners this week I will also make a casserole up ready to shove in the oven.
I ordered a sweede with my shopping and two enormous ones turned up so we shall be having sweede and carrot for a while, good job I love it !
Will get the dogs out for a good long walk as its such a nice day.
Have good days all xxx10 -
Morning everyone. DH and I went for a bit longer dog walk this morning, drizzly and wet underfoot. A chilled out Sunday hopefully will follow.Bella & Izzy, sorry for your building problems
- I'm seeing it from the other side with DH being a builder, the supply probs and rising costs seem never ending. His current job seems to be going on forever through no fault of his own and he has had to go and see his next job that he was expecting to start next month and tell them it'll be after Christmas now. The trouble is he still has to pay wages even when they can't do anything and he's expecting any profit to be low. I know it must be frustrating when a job can't progress- let's hope you don't wait too much longer.
I chucked the middles left from pumpkin carving with the DGC onto the banking at the back, it's all gone.I think the resident squirrel has been busy.I made a curry last night when we got home from the match, went down well & used up a few frozen starters too.Have a good day all x:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. Morning, hugs if you need one.
Usual slow Sunday start, especially as we were up super early yesterday. I have prepped the veg for supper and also made an apple crumble with the last apples from the tree.
Sunny so far, have a load of washing in, hopefully will get it mostly dry on the line. I am going to start the cards this morning, once they are done I have another storybook cushion to make and apparently a commission due to come for a friends mother. A table runner for Christmas. I hope I have enough Christmas fabric to do it. I am not buying any more if I can help it.
Couple of busy days Monday and Tuesday, Wednesday B moves, will do what I can to help, Thursday and Friday are free, then its the weekend again.
Supper roast pork and veggies, Apple crumble for dessert.7
