My husband while having an eye check appointment at vision express was asked if he wanted to have a free contact lens trial, he said yes. He had two appointments because he struggled getting them in and out, finally managed it came home with contact lenses, cleaning solution and pot. He managed to get it in at home, took him just over an hour to get it out (truth). He phoned up, cancelled his next appointment and that was that, no charge whatsoever .

Honestly, having the proper assessment IS the cost-effective way to do it. Pay for a proper assessment at Specsavers or anywhere else, ask for test packs of daily and or two-weekly lenses, and once you have tried both, pay for the service and then obtain the lenses you want online at a better price.
Losing your sight because you don't want to pay for a proper assessment of your eyes would not be cost-effective. I say that as a contact-lens wearer of some 20 years - paying for the proper tests isn't a waste of money. Some days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....

I have spent 16 years wearing contact lenses in all manner of environments and scenarios, I’ve experienced what over-wearing feels like, what forgetting you take them out feels like, what wearing them whilst swimming feels like, what putting undiluted peroxide solution in your eyes feels like, what dropping them on the floor, washing them off under a tap and putting in your eye feels like.
All that being said, I’d never go back to being a full time glasses wearer.
ok so slightly off piste there, you MUST bite the bullet and get a professional Optometrist to assess you and provide you with the information needed to be able to proceed to the next step of wearing the correct lenses.
i purchase my lenses from visiondirect as mentioned by a previous poster and my peroxide solution from Amazon.I’ve been in A&E twice with my eyes (direct relation to contact lenses), they’re not to be just randomly bought and worn without knowing what you’re doing.
getting them in and out your eyes will be a bit tricky and odd at first but after a short while becomes second nature. If you believe you can, you will. If you believe you can't, you won't.
