O/S Daily Friday 22 October 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Now getting light, dry and cooler than it has been. Wind had a really chilly bite to it yesterday.
DH up and getting ready for work as is DS1, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was HM shepherds pie, delicious it was too, but made it too deep in a big dish so took ages to cook, note to self for next time - use a more shallow dish! Tonight will be a quick and easy shove in the oven something with chips.
Yesterday work was ok, pleased now to be on my days' off. Have all my normal chores to do - food shopping first thing, housework etc, menu prep and any other prep for the upcoming work week etc.
Keep safe and well x

Morning folks - thanks for starting us off nmlcYesterday I went to bed rather late (for me) as I was really enjoying lying on the sofa watching the fire in the stove. Nothing worth watching on TV even after the engineer fixed the wonky cable but I was engrossed by the flames as the wind was so high again.
This morning I'm off down to Glasgow, I need to go to the bank, collect two orders and have what I really hope is the final fitting of my dental implants. They should now be polished and smooth and well fitting after being two high last time. It's been almost exactly a year since I started this process, now I'm looking forward to it being finished.I'm staying over again and meeting up with my late DM's crossword friend for a coffee tomorrow morning. I know he's also missing her dreadfully so a wee catch up will do us both good.TA - did the vet survive the visit from Sparkle?Hugs to everyone. Happy Friday to all.14 -
Morning all
Cold here this morning, yesterday it turned much colder and people were coming into work shivering, a lady bought a little boy in and he really didnt look at all well, I mentioned it to her and she said he was shivering all the way in the carshe went in anyway and was back within 1/2 hr with the child sobbing he was really unwell and she said oh I hope its not covid as someone at his nursery has it, I was a bit dumbstruck !! she bought him into a place where some of our clients have really low immune systems and he was coughing all over us on reception
Lets hope we dont catch anything !!
I shall pick the shopping up after work today and OH is here to help me lift it in and put it away which I hate doing. OH's dad has given us some money for a Chinese tonight we did him a favour and he insisted so it will be a really nice treat.
I emailed the MD yesterday asking if there is any movement on the wages of the support job and he emailed back to say he would look into it, so fingers crossed they can up it, even a little bit will help. Topsy I asked if they could change it to a four day job but they need someone for five days but if I get it it will do for the time being.
Right must get moving have good days all xxx11 -
Morning All
Quick one from me, I'm running a bit late, this sleeping to the alarm makes me feel a bit groggy first thing, I can't win!
Contacted the chap about the blinds, they will come and sort them out in a couple of weeks, pleased to hear they are busy.
Washing to go on when I get home, don't like leaving the machine on when I go to work.
Safe trip Gers.
Take care.XX12 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC for the new thread. It doesn't feel such a chilly start as yesterday but the heating is on for a quick burst anyway. It was beautiful yesterday with sunshine all day - quite warm in it but not so out of it. No sun forecast today and maybe some mizzly stuff at some point.
GERS yesterday's vet trip was text book! I got an unsuspecting cat inside the carrier before she knew what was happening and she was putty in the vet's hands. I wish it was always so stress free for all 3 of us! She had her usual steroid injection (with no hissing and spitting!) and then he gave me a course of antibiotics for her. I think he is feeling sorry for me with all these big monthly payouts as he said put these in your pocket quickly, meaning the bill was slightly less this time! Back in 2 weeks for a check up.
The usual boring Friday Tidy on the agenda for today with a delivery for Sparkle from Pets-at-Home. My delivery of Xmas gifts from Lakeland came yesterday All well packed and intact as usual and have now joined the rest of my stash upstairs.
Have a good day folks if you can with ((HUGS)) for the poorlies and poorly loved ones. And our list of MIA seems to be growing again. GERS happy implants day and enjoy your meet with DM's crossword buddy tomorrow. Take care one and all and be safe xx ps FLO that harvest display was most impressive.

Good morning everyone
Brrr, definitely chillier here this morning. Soon be time to put the heating on I think but for today I will wrap myself up in my big cardigan.
My sister came to collect her knitting order from me and she was very pleased. I had also knitted her some hats for her daughter and grand daughter and I had enough of the wool to make her one as well so they can all be matchy matchy.
Since then I have made another hat in blues and greens and will make a start on some more chocolate orange covers today.
Tonight I am going to make a sausage and pumpkin traybake for dinner, very seasonal. I also think Lee is planning on doing some baking so I will look forward to seeing what he creates.
I spent a happy couple of hours wrapping presents with Christmas songs playing to the surprise of my mum when she rang me in the middle of it all. I know it's very early but i want everything done just in case I end up in hospital again. My leg has improved a lot though so not this time Mr Infection!!
Ok, I'm off to put the kettle on and make some breakfast. Hope you all have a lovely day whatever you are up to. Take care all xx11 -
Morning all chilly here but not freezing . Today is the big cut and the roof windows are going in hurrah also the carpenter is coming to discuss the interiors for the built in wardrobes so busy busy still no news on the windows and doors Monday will see me calling and making a scene i get there are delays but its the constant let down of their promises to call me back it really is customer service at its worst.
DH and I have decided to start cruising again and have booked a trip we have wanted to do for a while the caribbean and the panama canal not till March 2023 but we have a sunset view cabin right at the back of the ship so should be a good return to our favourite type of holiday as DH is looking to retire in the next 5 to 8 years we wanted to get some big trips out of the way whilst we are still earning and fit enough to enjoy.
Ruby I can't believe anyone could be so stupid and selfish
Dumpling pleased to hear the leg is improving
Gers enjoy your trip to Glasgow and your new smile
TA poor sparkle but glad it was a text book trip to the vet
Right better get on have a great day whatever you are up to stay safe , hugs to all our poorlies and those looking after them .Slava Ukraini10 -
Morning all it’s another cold one got 3 lines of washing dry yesterday all towels and bedding don’t start work until 1 today it’s felt like such a long week .TA my little dog is on sensitive grain free food otherwise she itches all the time and she has a funny tummy it’s called Arden grange would the cat version of it help sparkle or is it something else she suffers with. Talking about puppies or one has gone back to its original owners we came to a agreement that they could come and see the dog because the children were so upset but they were coming most days and it wasn’t fair on the dog she was never going to settle and the children especially the little girl was broken hearted every time they went it’s obvious they love the dog but hadn’t realised going to work and having 3 kids there is not enough time for a boisterous puppy on a morning so we have said the days she is at work which is 2 sometimes 3 days a week we will look after her for them I know she has got a good home and is well loved but people really need to realise what hard work puppies can be never mind everyone is happy now must get cracking have a good day everyone whatever you are doing12

Good morning,
Well my trip to the dentist for a filling yesterday did turn into an extraction after all. He started talking about root canal treatment so I said just take it out and after 3 goes to numb the area that's what he did. Feels a bit tender this morning but I'm glad it's finally gone.
It's cold and a bit drizzly here this morning, I hope it dries up as my sister and I are planning a walk on the coastal path later.
Planted another load of daffodil bulbs yesterday so I think today I had better get on with some housework.
Have a good day x11 -
Thanks IZZY kind of you to recommend it but it's not a food allergy with Sparkle. Although she is on hypoallergenic dry food and additive free wet food with the thinking that anything might help! Sadly It doesn't but I am keeping her on it anyway! Thanks again.

Morning! Almost finished the table. The fabric is on and I've waxed it with a red wax to deepen the colour a bit and now I need some oak ish colour wax for the wood. The room smells of beeswax now. I tried it with colourless but it's not quite right it's off to the shops, ok,one shop, a local hardware shop, to see if they have any. That should be finished today.I have some cooking to do, a friend of OHs is coming round to eat, drink and play backgammon tomorrow and we are out for lunch tomorrow with friends so I need to do the cooking today. We're having a Mexican inspired little bits and pieces meal with the beef stuff I made in the freezer, pica de gallo, flatbreads and a some chicken fajita or chicken in enchilada sauce to stuff in them and some refried beans. And salsa and tortilla chips. Too much maybe? I'll just do a little bit of everything. I do tend to go a bit overboard when I cook for other people. The house buyers want to complete next Friday but I'm not sure that's enough time for me to get everything done. We have a funeral next Friday so I have to be here for that. There are four heavy big things to move inside so that's finding two hefty blokes to move them and some small things to throw away, mugs etc, I still need to go up in the attic, take down some of the curtains [not out of spite, they're Italian linens, my mother got them and I want them, for memory purposes and because they'l be useful and nice ] and get the damn shed emptied...Last one now sorted, just phoned the guy, he's booked for Wednesday. I'll give my sister a ring after and we can sort something out [ the big heavy things are things she wants...].TA, good to hear it was a painless visit this time! dumpling, matchy matchy!
Florence, the harvest display looks beautiful. Topsy, it's a big thing so be nice to yourself...dp1 how bloody thoughtless of her co worker! Ruby, the same for the mother of the toddler...I swear people have left what comon sense they have at home half the time. I think quite a lot of people have lost their fear now, as if it never happened and thousands haven't died...Idiots! Izzy, sorry about your puppy, and you know the next time to tell them they cant visit
SUnflower, sorry about your tooth but yay, no more pain...Gers, good luck with the teeth THIS time! Bella, sorry about your uncle, sometimes it feels like bad news just keeps on coming...
Have a good day if you can, if not, my apologies and some unicorn sparkles.....it won't help but ti'll look pretty...Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi11
