Cavity wall insulation can't be fitted - ASHP issues...

When you look at the mess made by a gas explosion in Ayr last week, just think how big it would have been if it was hydrogen rather than natural gas (think of the Hindenburg) - just sayingNever under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers1

There is that but it's probably more to do with the fact that hydrogen is a very leaky gas. So yes, you will get some explosions where it leaks and builds-up, but mostly it will just leak away and vanish.Reed0

Is hydrogen any more explosive than methane? I thought it was the proportions of the gas/air mixture that was critical. Flour is extremely explosive in the right proportion with air.

To answer a few points, the company that refused to fit the CWI is locally "the company" so when others see on the system (I believe run by the local council) that it was refused by them the others don't even bother coming out to have a look.
External insulation aint happening. I live in an estate and our houses are all brick-fronted. If I lived in a rendered house then perhaps but I just wouldn't like my house looking so vastly different to the others on the street...plus I bought the house specifically because it was brick-facing as opposed to rendered/clad/etc.
Hydrogen I've been told isn't "the solution".
Insulated plasterboard could work but the cost and mess involved will be huge so it'll need to be something done perhaps over a longer period of time.
Thanks everyone for your thoughts.

ETA, yes you are right about H2 being move explosive, apparentlyon an equal mass basis, hydrogen gas explosions are more destructive and carry further. However, the duration of a conflagration tends to be inversely proportional to the combustive energy, so that hydrogen fires subside much more quickly than hydrocarbon fires.
