Tesco Clubcard vouchers - new rules

So I had a grocery delivery today and I used a £20 Clubcard voucher against the shopping. They spread this £20 over every single item I bought, rather than treating it like cash to pay part of the order. I’m now annoyed because I sent back 2 substitutions and the refund is for less than the items were. I contacted Tesco and they said this is the new way it is! So basically if you return anything you lose money per item (I know it’s pence but it all adds up and they were Clubcard points i had earned!)
