Views on battery quote please

I had panels installed a few years ago with the Norfolk 'Solar Together' initiative. I have a 4kW system that generates around 4300 kWh per annum. I have been very happy with the setup and it has paid for itself already. I am interested in trying to reduce my energy costs further (and try to be greener) and have signed up for a quote from Norfolk 'Solar Together' battery storage offer. This has just come through but I'm not up to speed with the price and benefits of these systems.

I have been quoted £3198 for a 4.3kWh battery or £4272 for 6.5kWh. (8.6 is £5346 and 12.9 is £7254 but I presume these are unnecessarily large)

The packages include:
  • Battery storage - PYLON US2000 PLUS LI-ION BATTERY
  •  Battery inverter/charger - SOLIS 3.0KW 5G RAI ENERGY STORAGE AC COUPLED BATTERY CHARGER
  •  Installation
  •  All cabling and mounting material
  •  In-home monitoring
  •  Guarantees and warranties
  •  Onsite survey (if needed)
The installer is Greenscape from Ipswich.

Would appreciate any thoughts.

Thanks

A 2.4kWh Pylontech battery costs £7-800 depending on whether it is the older model or the S model which has a greater depth of discharge and therefore more usable power.

A bit of scope for haggling down, I feel, but see what others who have these batteries installed say.

Thanks Depth of Discharge: 90% on my quote

  • I think the Pylontech batteries used to be around £700 but I am struggling to find them under £850 at the moment (full VAT is charged on battery-only installations). Two of those batteries, plus say £900 for an inverter, leaves £600 for the other bits and installation. Seems pretty fair to me.

I thought the Pylon-tech batteries are 2.4 kwh so two of those would be 4.8kw which does,'t seem to agree with your quote. I agree the last two options looks overkill.

Could be 4.3 usable or a typo!

Edit: On second thoughts at 90% DOD that is usable capacity. I think that honesty is a good sign.

Having not noticed the Pylontech prices creeping up again, I agree with 2-t-b that probably is a fair deal. Could still try a haggle though!

Thanks. No, I don't understand the multiples either!

Looks like that's it. Usable around 2.15 per unit

The Solis inverter is just over £600. Pylontechs are mostly out of stock right now but expected in the next few weeks depending on supply chain issues.

There are some deals around if you look. I've seen 7.2kWh plus the (more expensive) Sofar ME3000SP for £2800. I might go for that when back in stock. Otherwise it's tempting to go directly to Aliexpress.

My 6.3 kWh Solax battery cost me £3750 two years ago.   The price worked out the same with or without a couple of extra solar panels. So I got these fitted with micro inverters which made the whole lot VAT free.  (Otherwise it would have been pretty much the same price just for the battery with VAT).   I"m very happy with it and although we are not heavy users here, ideally I would have something a little bigger.
    Install 28th Nov 15, 3.3kW, (11x300LG), SolarEdge, SW. W Yorks.

So 2x 2.4kwh pylontech at 90% dod gives 4.3kwh it's highly highly unusual to see a company quote this properly,  that's a good sign.

I have several pylontech and am very happy with them.

    I think it's a decent quote.

How much is enough and how much is overkill, well that's dependent on you.

How much electricity do you buy each year, and how much solar do you export?

The scheme does seem good and honest. The solar panel installation was inspected in minute detail by engineers independent of the installers and any issues were highlighted and sorted out. That is one of the reasons I am comfortable going with them if the price is in the right ball-park.

Not sure how much I export but on average since install I am buying around 3000kWh per year. I am thinking 6.5kWh storage should do me but its a bit of a stab in the dark. The quote recommends 4.3.
