Tesco has launched its first checkout-free store where shoppers can pick up their shopping and leave without needing to pay at a till. Tesco's 'GetGo' store opened in High Holborn in London today (19 October). It will be open seven days a week from 7am to 11pm.

I’m surprised Aldi has one of those because they don’t have self scanning. We asked one of their managers if they were going to get self scanning and were told Aldi didn’t like them because of the high numbers of shoplifters that other stores had.0

Self scanning is very vulnerable to shoplifting since customers always have the choice not to scan all the items. If - and it's a big if - they get the technology right, "just walk out" will eliminate shoplifting because customers are automatically charged for every item they take out of the store.0
