Hello,

We are currently with Santander on a 5 year fixed. The initial mortgage was taken out using Help to Buy. The term expires on 2nd Jan, so we've been working with a broker to remortgage with a view to paying the equity loan off in full.

The broker advised Santander was the better option for us and submitted a remortgage with further borrowing (to pay off equity loan) application with them. We've instructed a conveyencer and received the redemption statement from Target to move forward, however Santander have declined the application today and their reason is because we didn't apply directly.

The broker is quite annoyed at this as he says that they've mislead him as there was nothing to say he could not apply on our behalf, so he's raising the issue with the business dev at Santander. But where does this leave us? I'm concerned we've had a hard search conducted now and I'm loathe to keep applying via different routes. Does anyone have any advice?
