O/S Daily Sunday 17 October 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Now getting light, dry at the moment, temperature has dropped, heating is on at the moment but I'll turn it off in a bit.
DH watching catchup tv, I'm enjoying my first cuppa whilst on here. DS1 still in his pit. DS2 happy and settled.
Dinner last night was all day breakfast - not the healthiest but very nice all the same. Roast pork today.
We got a couple of jobs done yesterday and visited the elderly family members so today will be a chilled day just prepping and cooking lunch then getting organised for the upcoming work week.
Keep safe and well x

Morning all.
Thanks for the thread nmlc and hugs to all those in need.
Moving day today, Steve's getting himself all wound up about the solar readings so we are going into the marina for a couple of days and the engineer is booked in to come a check it out. It will cost £100 plus the marina fees but hopefully it will stop Steve wittering on. No doubt he will then start panicking about something else. Still we will be allowed plugged into shore power whilst we are there so at least I'll have a couple of days with unlimited use of the vacuum and hot water without boiling the kettle.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Morning everyone
I've been catching up with my tea the last few days - but haven't really had anything to say. A busy week at work but we break up next Friday for a week so looking forward to that.
Yesterday DD and I took little one to a pumpkin patch just over the border into Scotland - she was so excited and ran round trying to pick up huge pumpkins and putting little ones into our bright pink wheelbarrow. I got a variety of little cute ones which we dropped off at nursery on the way home - I'll bring them home for little one on Friday to go on my living room windowsill. DD got some big ones to go on their front doorstep. It was good fun - little one loved it.
Going down to my dad later while mam goes to church then I said I'd have little one for a short while so DD can empty her car of pumpkins, clothes, all sorts in peace - she can go home for her nap as I fancy a nice quiet afternoon!
No doubt eldest DD will phone later as she has been in Berlin for the past few days for work - seems to involve going round shops and art galleries getting 'inspiration' - she's loved it - especially as travel and hotel was all paid for.
Well I'm going to get my ironing done before I go out. Going to make some bolognaise sauce when I come back and planning on fish pie for tea - Tesco man will hopefully bring the fish!
Have a good day everyone10 -
Morning folks. There's thick grey cloud outside with fine rain falling. Yesterday there was rain for most of the day too.I went into town to pick up a packet of lateral flow tests. I feel perfectly well so the box is still unopened. The government is urging everyone to self-test twice a week so I'm still thinking about it. 🤔
In the afternoon a neighbour called in with her very wet dog, she brought a large towel to dry the dog and a bottle of champagne for us to drink. A very thoughtful woman indeed. We toasted my late DM and my late aunt who had died in mid-August. My cousins (in Germany) were interring her ashes in my uncle's grave yesterday so the fizz was well timed. Later on my neighbour's husband joined us. I had lit the wood burner so it was all cosy and lively.Once again I watched SCD in bed and then fell asleep. Today I really should go out for a walk, I've been so blooming lazy recently it's a disgrace! 🚶♀️Good to hear more news of Nels though I hope that Marie and Poppy are doing OK too.Bella - at last your work in the house is getting done 👏
DP1 - Berlin is my favourite European city, I'm sure your DD had a great time there. It's definitely the place for inspiration.
Happy Sunday to all.9 -
Morning All
Very wet and gloomy this morning but I'm having a day of sloth so it doesn't matter!
Our trip away was really good, we did get lost on the way there taking the tourist route that turned out to be a very scenic route! Beautiful day and lots of fabulous scenery so all was not lost. There were more people at the murder mystery event that I thought but it was good fun and met some lovely folk at our table. The food was excellent so a good trip all round.
Nothing to do today apart from going to buy a bottle of fizz for a birthday, even that could wait until tomorrow.
Thinking of the missing and poorly, take care. XX8 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC for the start. I was AWOL yesterday as I was having a bad (very bad) day and didn't want to bore you all with the details.
It's thick cloud here too but feels much milder so no heating on today. Early mizzle has now moved on. As it's a day of sloth for me too the weather doesn't affect it.
I have a pan of lean steak mince on the go for cottage pie bases. One to be made up for lunch and the rest to be frozen. Dp1 I hope your Tesco man is kinder than mine was yesterday, Although the mince looks lovely I had quite a few subs but nothing I couldn't cope with. It's a bit hit and miss just now.
I made my usual early trip down into town yesterday morning as there were a few bits I needed. The usual 3 of us going down and back up again. It would be cheaper for the bus company to send a taxi up for us!
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for the poorlies, poorly loved ones and MIA."If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"8 -
Morning, hugs if you need one. Back in the 'old routine' our little break is over. We enjoyed the change. I have finished unpacking and shoved the cases under our bed for easy access next time we need them.
Its a horrid, very grey morning, had to have the kitchen light on to do the veggies for supper. I took a cooked, stuffed chicken breast out of the freezer, it is big enough for both of us. Spuds etc done.
No plans for the day. I will pop over and see my neighbour, she has at last decided that she needs more care than she is getting just now and is moving into a sheltered housing plus, flat in 10 days. We have looked out for her ever since her husband died 4 years ago. Two of her children live abroad, one lives an good hours drive away, so we have always taken up 'the slack'. We will miss her, but will still visit. I used to go over at least 3 times a week and chat. I will make sure that I go in at least once a week once she moves. Family have a big job on clearing stuff and deciding what to take with her, the rest we will clear once she has gone and settled in to her new flat. We have said we will take her garden stuff and also the rose she had planted when her husband died. The bungalow and garden will be stripped once she has gone, the council will want a tenant in as soon as possible. So a bit of a busy time over the next few days.
The rest of the bulbs arrived yesterday so we can plant up the 4 large tubs. The rest of the stuff needs clearing out and the patio sweeping and jet washing.
So supper tonight is the chicken with roast veg, no dessert, too much naughty stuff whilst we were away.

Morning all
Dry here for now and I hope it stays that way I have stripped the beds this morning and got them onto wash so will hang the bedding out for a while.
Im going to go the veg and OH will do the potatoes for a roast and once they are done we will get little pup out for a walk, DD and big pup are off to Brighton to see a friend for the day so they will go for a walk on the beach. I saw a fb post about a local ish farmer selling sacks of spuds from the farm so we will head that way for our walk and pick up a sack we seem to be getting through a lot more now the weather is cooler.
Yesterday I did some cooking for the week I made a beef casserole, carrot and corriander soup, a cheesy bean pie to have with sausages and a hm tomato and garlic sauce to have with pasta, the roast beef today will do two days so that should get us through to Friday I find it a huge help when I get in from work tired.
My mum has my nephews coming over for lunch today so I shall go and see them, its always bittersweet as they look so much like my brother, but its good to keep the contact going.
Nels was on good form yesterday and felt so much better.
TA I hope today is better for you xx
Have good days all xxx

This morning I did a wash load, forgot that my black trousers were already in the drum before throwing in my white towels. Now I have grey'ish towels. They were cheapies so I'm not too bothered, they're now having another wash, I can keep them for dog drying this winter. Most of my neighbours have dogs who love to wallow in the river or sea estuary. Now I've ordered new towels (any excuse) as I don't like big fluffy ones and keep them for visitors.Whilst I was online shopping I saw a set of lovely brushed cotton stuff with stags heads on - they're also heading my way. If the winter is bad I'll need all the cosiness I can get after spending three years in a centrally heated flat. One of my neighbours is upstairs cutting a hole in the ceiling to fit the PIV unit into - I hope that this means that the sparky will follow on soon.Ruby - your weeks cooking sounds lovely, and so organised too. Good to hear about Nels, I'm glad she's feeling better. My planned walk is not going to happen, the day is mild but so very wet, not driving or heavy rain, just constant drizzly stuff.9

Good afternoon all,
I'm a little earlier today, bacon & egg roll 🥪for breakfast then went out for a 6.5 mile walk with my sister. It's very grey here but the rain did hold off.
Making a chicken dinner with all the trimmings for tonight. My DH has just been to tesc0 and said some of the shelves were looking pretty bare ☹
I think I might attempt to climb the ironing mountain once I've fortified myself with more coffee ☕
Have a good day x8 -
TA - Hope youve had a better day today. The only sub in my Tesco shopping was a very big bag of sugar instead of a normal sized one - it'll last me ages.
Gers - eldest DD absolutely loved Berlin - we may go next year, though I think she'll be back before then with her friends.
I do lateral flow tests twice a week for work - have done for ages now, but I still sneeze and then retch - not my favourite thing to do.
Made a lovely fish pie for tea and also a big pan of bolognese sauce.8
