You need to call your own dentist for specific advice, not ask on here. How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -
I have, and been told the dentist will be informed of the large pocket of infection that's appeared. (No call back so either they're not concerned or the message didn't get passed on).
Meanwhile I continue to sit tight and wait for Friday, but I'm anxious and not a dental expert. Google has (of course) led me to all sorts of horrific warnings that if you don't get an abscess seen to right away then it can spread to your brain and be lethal. I'm also concerned that the abscess could spread to the neighbouring (root canal'd) teeth and double or triple the bill. On a more "trivial" note there's the worry that I'm supposed to be going away weekend after next (not a concern for me, but someone is relying on me) and if this adds a complication that delays extraction it could interfere with that. It's all going round and round so I'm sorry if it bothers you (unsub from the thread?) but I have to "ask the void" even if no one wants to answer.0 -
Hands are tied about what to say (a) without seeing what's in your mouth no one knows (b) going against forum rules by saying things, whether medically qualified or not.
The default from anyone will always be contact your dentist for advice and chase them if you're concerned.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.0 -
All done (and the infection was expected and wasn't a barrier to it being taken out)
Apparently what happened was not decay but a form of resorption that eats away at the tooth. We're hoping that the other one "behaves" but realistically as the same shadows were present over the x-ray it's probably only a matter of time before £3k becomes £6k. Can't say I'm too happy about this prospect!0 -

Can't say I'm too happy about this prospect!Hi @Cloudane I'm in a similar but slightly different situation to the one you were in a little over a year ago, in that I have an UL6 (first molar) with a cracked root that is beyond repair and needs to be extracted. I'm weighing up whether to get an implant or just leave a gap. If I go the implant route, I've been advised to get a bone graft at the time of extraction.
Did you proceed with the implant? If so, how did everything go?0
