O/S Daily Wednesday 13 October 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Now getting light, dry at the moment.
DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was braised pork steaks, and LO's from the roast - all eaten and enjoyed. Not sure what we'll be having tonight but will sort that this afternoon as it's my half day and I finish work at lunchtime, although I have an earlier start.
Yesterday work wasn't too bad and training was worthwhile. Working from the other office today.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning.
Early start. Not because I've work to go to as I'm now retired. Oh the irony of needing less sleep as you get older. All those years dragging myself out of bed early to get to work and wishing for a lie in. Anyway I'm not complaining and I do hope everyone has a good day.
Yesterday my husband made a list for me showing the approximate cost per minute/ hour of all our household appliances. We've just renewed our utilities contract and in November we go up from £76 to £94 per month. I'm really hoping we won't be going over that. We're using more energy because we're now both at home all day. I'm sure that a lot of people working from home as well as retirees and the housebound will be facing similar challenges with rising bills.
Yesterday we had apple and pear baked oats for breakfast. Beans and (vaguely cheesy) vegan cheese on toast for lunch and spicy root stew and peas for tea.Stashbusting 2019 - 230/30012 -
Morning all.
Thanks for the thread nmlc and hugs to all those in need.
Moving day today, we have unpleasant neighbours so we will hopefully leave them behind. We will stop moving soon as we will be on our winter mooring from 1st November. Beano and I will walk part of the way, probably a couple of miles.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.13 -
Morning all
Cold again this morning but the heating did come on after some fiddling last night so its a bit easier getting out of bed when the room is warmer.
I met my temporary (while on phased return) boss yesterday, lets just say he is very confident he did mansplain to me about how to copy and paste something on the PC he is nice enough but I dont think I could work for him full time ! I did not hear about the other job so hopefully today.
Cottage pie for dinner its all made and in the fridge so just need to cook it tonight and do some veg so nice and easy. I shall empty the dw this morning and make sure the kitchen is tidy, I am slowly getting back into a routine.
Hope you all have good days, stay safe xxx12 -
Morning folks.Yesterday plans didn't work out smoothly. ☹️ The annual boiler service didn't take place as the company had a flood of emergency call outs. This wouldn't normally matter too much but the flat sale was planned to conclude today after the service. I had a moment of panic before pulling myself out of it, phoned my solicitor and left her to it. Now I'm expecting conclusion on Monday. The kind upstairs neighbour is being very accommodating.Today there's a planned electricity outage from 10am to 4pm for work on some lines. I'm going to wait until the power goes out to drive up to Oban for some shopping. I might call in on some friends who live near Oban to take a little refuge. Last night I prepared the wood burner so it's ready to light as soon as I get home. That way I can heat water / soup etc. With a little luck the power will come on before 4pm.I'm thinking about changing my car next year. It's a 2017 so not too old but I want a 'last' car, anyway I spoke to the salesman at the Campbeltown dealership and will go down there next week. If I want one next March I'll probably have to order soon. The whole idea is still swirling around my brain!
Now I must get myself ready. Good vibes going out to all our missing and poorlies, it's good to hear news of Nelski. Happy Wednesday to all.13 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Doesn't feel too chilly this morning but I have popped the heating on anyway for a short blast just to warm it up a bit.
Today I have another milestone. They all come together. It's now 3 years today since I lost my lovely Bob and sometimes it still feels like yesterday and I can relive every moment of his last day with us. As usual DD is taking me out for lunch as she doesn't want me on my own dwelling on what might have been had life been kinder. She has booked an Italian restaurant in a village a few miles away. Neither of us has been there before but it gets very good reviews so it's something to look forward to. She's a good un.
As usual I enjoyed my lunch with oldest buddy yesterday. More so as it was very quiet and we were not surrounded by noisy groups of people! Despite meeting every week again we never tire of anything to talk about and chat away for 3/4 hours each time.
So today will be another day of no jobs getting done but there's always tomorrow!! Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for our poorlies, poorly loved ones and MIA. Take care one and all and stay safe x"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"15 -
Good Morning all,
Thinking of you all.Hester, hope you manage to leave the unpleasant neighbours behind.
Chirpycheap, I am not looking forward to hearing what our fuel bills will be, we are currently on £71 per month for dual gas/electricity. I am trying to not use the DW and TD so much this autumn and winter.RedRuby, I hope you hear today about the other job.
Gers, I can understand how you felt yesterday morning, how nice the neighbours sound. NMLC, hope you have a good day.
Not sure what I will be doing today. I have managed to wake up with what feels like the start of another cold, but it could be my fibromyalgia as I am having a very bad flare up at the moment. I have had it for many, many years, initially I had ME and now it feels like I am getting the two back together again. Oh well, could be so much worse, but I get frustrated as I am not able to support my elderly parents as much as I wish. It will be a week tomorrow since my last visit as I just can’t get my legs moving properly.Plans for today are to online order parents grocery shopping, and work on my online order too. I am going to look at some new idea budget friendly menu plans too as wish to add some variety to what we are eating.
Enough waffling, best be off. Take care all.Sealed Pot Challenge # 003

Morning all, bit brighter today. I managed my trip yesterday, didn't buy much- 4 varieties of small pork pie.Got them last time after DB recommended them , I'm not normally that keen but they are delish, and some peppers and noodles to go with the stir fry beef and laksa sauce I got out for tea.I had a quick chat with DB but he hadn't time to go for a coffee, still better than nothing.Came home and made more cards, & replied to a long email my friend had sent.Trying to decide what I fancy tonight for tea, it's DGC pick up from school day so needs to be something quick and easy once they've gone.Glad you are having a nice time CsarinaHope you all have a nice day x:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. Moring all..I had a big lie in, I was awake, I just didn't want to leave the warm sheets. Came to Wales on Monday, the surveyor has been, in and out, very harried, told me they were flat out, so I asked how many jobs did he have left to do that day, response - one...this was at half two. So not actually that harried then....Then the gas man came yesterday and unhooked the cooker. It was hard plumbed in , no bayonet fitting in sight, and he also alerted me to the scrappy outside, and then gave the scrap man a hand to carry it to the truck...Total result! One more person added o the preferred tradesman list. Today I'm ringing back the man to empty the shed when I get a signal to arrange it. Yesterday I moved everything were were keeping to one corner, swept what I could, cleaned behind the cooker and that was me done [done in!] . We had a meal with my cousin last night for my sisters birthday, that was nice...we may have finally persuaded her to get the roofer in. And it does feel like every time I come back there's another job to do in my isters house. This time it's a new door lock, the catch has come off hers after about 40 years [!] so I'll go and get her a new one when I go shopping later and we'll fit it later on.I did write a post yesterday but clicked something on the keyboard and it all disappeared so I gave up.Bella, good to hear your blessing went off mostly without a hitch . Ruby, hope the new job pans out...and good to hear Nelski is getting some help and some telly....chirpy, we're fixed until January 2022, not looking forward to what happens after that...TA, hope your meal goes well. It does feel like the world should stop but it never does. Nanny, well done on the shopping! Right, I'm off to shower and desmellify..Have a good day if you can, if not, I prescribe Maltesers...Shampoo? No thanks, I'll have real poo...8
