Drinking glasses recycling

I've got some drinking glasses (eg wine) I no longer want/need. Can I put them in my green recycling bin? It does take glass (jars, bottles etc). The men are helpful to any queries like this but I have an exam on collection day and don't know if I'll catch them to ask and putting stuff in that they don't take just results in the whole box not being taken, something I want to avoid this close to Christmas. We do not have any car-boots here and the charity bags ask you not to include items of this type.

  • Can you call the council waste dept?
Alternatively there is always a lot of glass at charity shops - I can see why they don't want it in the bags but would you be able to pop round to the shop with them in a box?
Otherwise - freecycle? (though that is more hassle!)

Reusing the glasses is more preferable to recycling. Take them to a charity shop so they can be reused.

My local scheme doesnt accept them as "they can get broken"

why this matters when they are tipping them in the back of the van with lots of other things that can get broken ( eg glass bottles/ jars) Ill never know, but Ive given up trying to fathom out waltham forests recycling process TBH.
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

I thought it was because they used slightly different kinds of glass? And they do break easier than jam jars etc, IME.

Anyway, charity shop (some will collect if you have a sackful) or Freecycle!

Yes I thought it might be 'the wrong type of glass' hence my reluctnace to put in without asking first. I'd not thought of contacting the council to ask. I haven't got sackful's more like half a dozen-ish. Of which half at least are re-usable. My council also says 'no broken glass 'so I kept the box back one week when I realised the jar I'd thrown in it had just smashed. When the men offered to take it, I explained they couldn't cos it had broken glass in and they answered "and what do you think happens when we throw the glass into the cages on our truck".
