I suspect the independent supplier is using landscape orientation for the panels to fit in another few panels. I would have thought though the extra cost of >370W panels would be justified, unless the smaller size of the 340W panels is required to get the extra panels.
Good point on the 370W panels, I'll ask the installer.

Interesting on the EON quote, when I got a quote, they could only offer 330w panels!
EON are now offering 390W panels, they've just updated my quote.

I emailed them and they just said I'd get even less on my roof as they're bigger, I just replied and said thanks but I'm going with 11*385w.

I guess they just didn't want my business.
4.29kWp Solar system, 45/55 South/West split in cloudy rainy Cumbria.

I think I'll end up going with EON now tbf. Just need them to confirm it's the 5KW inverter I will get and not the 3.6.

The inverter should be sized less than you panels its more efficient if you do it like that.
8kw system spread over 6 roofs , surrounded by trees and in a valley.

Yep, and for 4.29kWp, a 3.68kW inverter would be a good match, and won't need prior approval from the DNO.

This fact really got to me when I was looking at my install and the installer really couldn't explain why it was a good idea to have a small capacity inverter than that of the panels.  Now of course with experience I know better. My 3.3kWp panels have only topped out the 3kW inverter a handful of times in six years I've had it (and the inverter goes go over the rated 3kW anyway).  So when I got my extra couple of 300W panels I wasn't in the slightest bit concerned when I was told they were connecting to a 500W micro inverter.
    Install 28th Nov 15, 3.3kW, (11x300LG), SolarEdge, SW. W Yorks.
    Install 2: Sept 19, 600W SSE
    Solax 6.3kWh battery
