Keeping Contact Lens Costs Low?

I am a spectacle wearer but i would like to use disposable contacts occasionally for sports about 2 days a week, I am concerned about ongoing costs of having contacts with the assessment being needed every year and all the subscription models for buying contact lenses.

Does anyone out there have experience of using disposable contacts and how to keep the price down, i don't have much experience of using contact lenses although i used to use the ones with the solutions about 10 years ago and gave up.

I'm looking to have a trial first and see how it goes but i do find the visit to an optician one big sales pitch so i prefer to ask on here first for advice.
