facebook/Instagram competitions and newsfeed

Hi All, just getting back into comping and am having to find my feet again as things have changed a lot.

The amount of competitions posted seem so low these days, possibly due to covid? I used to only enter web competitions but due to the huge reduction in available  competitions  I have found myself slowly drifting to social media competitions.

My main issue though is you have to like or follow everyone who hosts a competition but then it's really hard to see close friends and family in the news feed as it becomes so busy.

How do people deal with this?

Also for a Facebook like and share can you like it and share it to your blog page on facebook or does it have to be your personal page?

  • I have now opened another facebook account and hope that I can find people on here to befriend for tagging in those competitions. I would feel horrible constantly tagging my friends and family in them. Especially that a lot of those competitions are asking for 3 people to be tagged. So this new facebook account can take as much as it wants in regards to what is onmy feed there.

Just be careful, because if Facebook picks up on it, they can remove both accounts without warning, as it is against Facebook terms and conditions to have more than one account.

Hi @dawnylou, I don't enter many competitions that say to share on Facebook and I have a few competition friends that I regularly tag. I've never had any issues with seeing friends things on Facebook, I believe you can choose settings on pages and groups to hide certain pages from your feed. Instagram I get a lot of competitions pop up, but again I see a lot of what my friends post. I don't like the competitions that ask you to follow about 8 accounts, depending on the prize. You'll often get competitions regularly from the same accounts.
Thank you to everyone who posts competitions and good luck to everyone who enters.
  • @Ms_Dee oh really? Didnt know that because so many people do it. Ok. Ill think about what i gonna do. Thank you for the warning.

I'm one of those atavistic dinosaurs who only use Social Media for the sole purpose of competitions, with no interest whatsoever in telling the world what I'm up to. Family and friends use old fashioned ways of communicating with me and that doesn't include even a mobile phone (my Pay As You Go is again purely for competitions). I'm probably as off-grid personally as you can get, but as on-grid everywhere in my comping personna! Only problem about this is that I constantly come up against the Facebook/Twitter limits of who I can follow and have to spend ages deleting a bunch.

I don't enter FB comps that often as I don't want to spam my friends and family. So only ever enter if it's something I really want or I don't have to tag anyone. My newsfeed is mainly stuff from friends.
My Twitter is only used for comps although I do get distracted by stuff on there and like things which means my newsfeed is a good mix of comps and stuff I'm interested in.
IG works for me as I love posting on there but not really interested in anything anyone else posts so don't mind it being spammed with ads.  :D:D
So I guess I would say just set up comp accounts on platforms you don't want to use personally.
