Old Style Daily Thread Friday 8th October

dumpling

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Good morning everyone
It's still too dark to see what the weather is doing but it feels mild. I had a better night's sleep but still got up far too early. The dogs were pleased to see me and are now hovering waiting for their breakfast.
The grandchildren are coming here this evening for a week whilst their mum and stepdad have a holiday in Crete. I am so looking forward to having them here but I must make sure their bed is sorted with clean bedding before tonight.
We are having a pukka pie and chips for dinner this evening. Last night I made a chicken cobbler dish but I didn't think much of it compared to all the effort and ingredients that went in it. I may make it again but this time I will put my own spin on it.
Lee has the day off today and I can hear Phoebe's alarm so she must be on an early shift today. I will let Steve lie in as he is starting to really feel his age and his knees are very sore. He does so much for all of us, I am so grateful to have him as a husband.
Ok, a cup of tea, feed the doggos and dig out some porridge from the cupboard. Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx14 -
Good morning,
Another early start for me, woken by the cats again.
Had a marathon baking session yesterday, mostly successful, the lemon cake didn't rise as much as usual and I have come to the conclusion that I can't make brownies.
It seems dry at the moment so I will get some washing out on the line before I go out.
Have a good day x

Morning folks and thanks DUMPLING for the early start. SunflOw3r I was another woken by a cat alarm, or should I say by her trampling all over me at 4.30 as she wanted her breakfast. And that was after a rubbish night's sleep as well. So today I feel fit for nowt!
My shopping trip with DD yesterday extended into the afternoon so by the time I had got home and put stuff away I was beyond cleaning the kitchen and bathroom. So that means they are added to the Friday Tidy job of a dust and vac all round. It may be a half hearted affair unless I perk up a bit.
It promises to be another lovely day of sunshine and 20 deg. Yesterday it felt like summer was back.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for our poorlies, poorly loved ones and MIA. Take care one and all and stay safe. xx

Morning All
Sorry I've been missing all week, life seems to have got in the way! Anyway, it's an in-service day so can start a little later. I'll be glad to have a day at work to catch up, can't believe how busy it's been. Week off after today to recharge the batteries although I have DS1 and the DGC coming on Sunday for most of the week, I think his partner is coming too for a couple of days.
The living room has been painted and looks lovely, the decorators have done a fabulous job and although the colour hasn't changed very much it looks so much fresher. I put together a new floor lamp yesterday and put the new rug down, I'll hang the new curtains tonight. The blinds will be here on the 20th so not too long to wait. I'll have a good sort out of things I've taken out of the cupboard, hoping that only half will go back.
Thinking of you back at work RR, didn't you have a phased return? Please send my love to Nels.
Florence, you put me to shame with all your makes and bakes.
I laughed at the 'Argyll time' Gers, hope your workmen get going soon.
Hugs to anyone in need.
Right, off to the shower and then my day can begin. Take care. XX11 -
Morning folks.Enjoy your DGC Dumpling!Well done on managing the decorators Camelot.TA - no rain then?Sunfl0w3r - I'm sure that the cakes tasted just fine.Couldn't post from my ipad this morning, something just wasn't working properly, probably me!Yesterday was mostly fraught and chaotic and frustrating - however I now have my three new blinds installed, a large pile of official paperwork printed off, signed and witnessed and some lovely bacon and sausages in the freezer.I'm just about to head down to Glasgow for an overnight stay. The pile of documents are to handed into my solicitor's office where I will have my ID confirmed, then it's finally time for the three new dental implants to be set in. Tomorrow I'm booked to see the new James Bond film in the morning.Hugs to the poorlies and missing - Happy Friday to all.12

Morning all
I have a day off today which is much needed i have been shattered all week ! Camelot I am on a phased return for 4 weeks I am trying to build up 1/2 hour per day but I find myself very tired each day and I am mostly sitting down, at the end of the 4 weeks I have another 4 doing light duties and then I think they want me back in the cafe which I am not going to be able to do so I am hoping they come up with something else for me.
I have an electrolysis appointment today the hair is still coming but is a lot thinner than before I will just keep going for now in the hope that it eventually gives up !
I have a shopping delivery coming this afternoon, and I will need to get the dogs out at some point too, everywhere is so muddy because of the rain so might just go to the park.
Something with chips for dinner I think there may be some fish fingers in the freezer so that will do with some beans, nice easy dinner.
Have good days all and take care xxx9 -
Morning, hugs if you need one.
Another bright day, its supposed to be warmer. I did push the quilt down in the night, will fold it across the bottom of the bed when I make it.
Will do a quick wash over night tomorrow and dry it in the dryer when we get up. Needless to say we will not be having our usual Sunday lie in.
I developed cystitis over night on Wednesday, have not had it for a while....... so 25 minute wait on the phone and then a wait for the Dr to call me. Medication arrived just after 4pm, so I managed to get 2 doses in yesterday. Feel better this morning, good job too.
Gardener due this afternoon, need to have a look and see what he can do, the front wants weeding and we have the strulsh to put down. I need to harden off some plants in the greenhouse, will leave them in a tray at the back of the house when we got away, so they can be put in when we get back. Also have bulbs to set.
Supper tonight, fish and chips and the last of the jelly.8 -
Hello all, spent most of yesterday on the phone trying to get a GP appointment, I was 7th in the queue and when I got to the front all the appointments had gone. My gentle badgering and persuasion finally paid off though and eventually they called back and gave me one for midday today at the sister surgery. I wouldn't normally be so persistent but I'm in pain and have been on-and-off for 2 weeks. Meanwhile DH was on his mobile sweet talking S*y as our contract runs out this month. He was successful as they have reduced our monthly bill, given us Net*lix for free and we have an engineer booked for tonight to come and look at our pathetic broadband speeds. Well done that man !!I'll have a swish around with the duster, empty the dw and refill it then that's about all that will get done for today. I did want to do some washing bit the skies are very overcast again and the patio is still wet from overnight mizzle. Tea tonight will be bacon and eggs.Hugs to all those struggling and healing vibes to the poorly ones, especially Nels and Marie. 🧡Take care all,nan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently11

son is taking me to the doctors this morning as I have been sick several times this week. Feeling really unwell and presume the cancer is on the March again. Really limited as to what I can do which is frustrating. Not going to watch the news as it is so depressing.
sorry to moan, hopefully next post will be a bit brighter11 -
Morning all..Grey but dry. That's my weather report over with...
The chimney sweep has been, clean bill of health for the flue, I've phoned the water board again, they'll be here this morning, my tip run will probably coincide with that. Done the dishes, cleaned the kitchen, I'm on a roll today. Just waiting back for some info as to a recommended waste removal firm and I'll book them in, also got to phone for my MOT but he was engaged just now.
I made brownies from a packet yesterday. The packets were going out of date so...OH enjoyed them anyway along with the S&B ladies..I didn't, I'm not a chocolate person really. If they'd been cheese straws, well now...Ally Pally on Sunday, downloaded the NHS app just for the covid pass, and must sort out something cool to wear. It will be less stalls and wider aisles and I must say I am looking forward to the prosecco bar. Got to make a packed lunch as well, it's been a while since I've done one of those. I will be mask wearing.OH is in on days again today, this has happened for the last few times he's been on lates, his oppo wants to come in ealry because he's rubbish at lates so he wangles it so they do the last day on days. He took himself off on his bike this morning, I was too tired to get up. Breakfast in a minute then crack on.....Nanny, hope they can give you something good..Sunflower, we all have rubbish baking daysTA, are you allowed to clean when the weather is nice? SHouldn't you take advantage of that and postpone the cleaning?
camelot, enjoy your week off! Ruby, I hope they can accomodate you....I'm just knackered even thinking about 4 hours work...And thanks to you and your mention originally of electrolysis, I am now less a few mole type things on my face and my nose doesn't look like a bad witch anymore, so thank you! Take care y'all...Nelski, hope they are helping you...see you on the flip side....
