VW car finance partial payments

Does anyone know how partial payments work for VW car finance PCP plans? I've saved a bit of cash to pay off a percentage of my outstanding car finance balance, but getting through to the customer services department on the phone is a pain, and there's no instructions/guide online on how the process works. Their email service is pretty bad from my experience too.
I found out via their customer service email that I have to transfer the money via bank transfer to them, and put my PCP ID as the payment reference, but they wouldn't tell me what would happen after I transferred the money, they just copy and pasted the same message again and then stopped replying after that.
I want to bring my monthly payments down bit by bit, and wanted to know if I can pay X amount this month, then save up for a little, and pay off some more again in a few months. Has anyone got any experience of making partial payments to VW?
