Right time to get a good old grip of myself stop overspending, pay off my CC's and get some savings under my belt.
I'm 38 and have good bouts of being really sensible with money but then I completely ruin it in a matter of months and it takes me years to recover from it.
I wouldn't mind a whole lot if I had a lot to show for it but most of it has been spent on complete and utter rubbish!
I have bought a house, furnished, decorated it and bought a puppy so its not all been a complete waste but I can see it starting to spiral out of control so I am off to make a spreadsheet and a plan to get myself out of this debt and these terrible habits.

So the spreadsheet is done and if I pay £315 per month from now until March 2026 I will be debt free (December 2023) and I will have savings of around £7,000.
I am really really really going to put all that I can into this. There may be months when I struggle but I am determined.
Also from this month I am going cold turkey on the CC's. I just need to cut them up and get rid of them but now that I've bought the flat I feel like I need to keep them until I have a good emergency fund.
It is a dilemma indeed.1 -

Do you have any cash/savings at all? I'd be inclined towards ditching the cards if you have a habit of impulsive spending on them.1

I've got 3 CC's and I am going to cut it down to 1. As I pay them off I am going to close the accounts.1 -
Someone smashed my window. Had someone out to quote to fix it and it will cost me £110. The insurance excess is £100 so not even gonna bother submitting the claim.
Just hoping I can make it through the month without adding to the CC.

Have you thought if doing an SOA so people can advise on other potential savings?Life isn't about the number of breaths we take, but the moments that take our breath away. Like choking....1
