Change Mortgage Address - Joint ownership?

Hi,

Can someone advise if the mortgage address in banks record be changed by one person when the mortgage is in joint names?

I do not mean the address of the property being mortgaged, but the contact address the bank has for the mortgage.

Me and my spouse are going through a divorce. The property and mortgage are in joint names. I received a letter  from the bank addressed to me- confirming address change. I was wondering how is that possible without the consent of both the parties? I will be speaking to the bank, but I wanted to get an opinion and advice from the experts here.

Thanks

No, they do not need to speak to both parties. Its assumed if you applied jointly you both trust each other.
I cant think of anything I have changed the address of where I have had to call up jointly.

    Hi,

I suspect that both parties have equal right to change the address details so I don't think that complaining to your mortgage company that an address change has occurred will help.

They may however be able to send paperwork relating to the mortgage to more than one address - see if that is possible.  It is in their interest, its more admin for them if you and your soon to be ex keep changing the address back and forth!

Thank you both, I see now.

Well if they can maintain two different addresses that is OK, but since they sent a letter to me saying I have changed address I was concerned.
