HMRC Self Assessment Portal.
I registered for self assessment this year; completely new to the portal and the whole requirement process. So I have been carrying out dummy runs, mainly due to calculate different scenario’s on unrealized dividend profits, and unrealized capital gains profits. I wanted to see what tax implications would be realized.
Also projected returns on different shares and incomes from these shares. It gave me a good idea on what sort of tax will be owed should certain scenario’s play out. To do this I used my own spread sheets in Excel initially. Then created the required Pdf document. Then uploaded them to the HMRC server.
I did not need to, and I do not know why I did, but I uploaded all these PDF documents to the HMRC server during the self assessment process, in all probably three or four different scenarios. So 15 or so different PDF documents, some showing very elevated tax being owed.
So I have carried out the self assessment process a number of times just to calculate a final figure for my own research. I have never submitted anything to the HMRC as of yet.
What has concerned me is will all these individual self assessment calculations be held now by the HMRC? Will the documents I have uploaded but not submitted be stored on the HMRC servers? Can they be easily accessed by the HMRC? I have deleted all the self assessment returns; there are zero in my portal now.
It’s just when I do the correct self assessment using the correct figures. I then upload the correct documents. Will the system pick up some of the previous self assessment calculations and question my authentic one as being a too low ball park figure as some of the previous calculations were much higher?
The system allows you to create and delete each individual self assessment calculation, along with any uploaded documents, as long as you do not submit. Are they actually deleted from the server along with any uploaded documents or have I created a red flag against my name now?
Sorry for the long drawn out message, but I just do not know why I had to upload the PDF documents as I realize now the system would not have read them nor would it had made an ounce of difference to the final tax owed calculation online. I should have just uploaded a blank PDF file, just to satisfy the system. Too much haste on my part.
Thanks for any help.

Even if they can be (and are checked) you have a valid reason for it.
I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.
