Thanks all, alas I'm in Northern Ireland and no crocs to be seen on the website, I will however keep an eye out and if these work well for me hopefully I can snaffle a pair for DH and DD who are likely to need new slippers soon but at least don't have holes in them!1

I have a piece of cardboard (delivery envelope) under my feet when I work from home; it works so well at keeping the cold in the floor and not crawling up my legs! When your children are in bed, tuck the blankets/duvet around them so there are no gaps around their shoulders where the cold air can seep in.If you don't have double glazing, there is an easy way to add insulation: 3M thinsulate window (A1di usually do an own-brand version once a year). Apply doublesided sticky tape to windowsill, add thick 'clingfilm', leave for 24 hours, heat with hairdryer and voilà!

We used to have Velcro stuck round the sash window frames with thick clear plastic so that when you wanted to air the room you could just peel a bit backworking on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0

Try to live in the smaller rooms in the house which are cheaper to heat. Open plan living is makes it expensive to keep a room warm as it is so big. Many people who have opted to knock down walls may wish they hadn't.2
