Early Repayment Of Student Loan (as an expat in the US)

Hi guys,

I was just hoping to get a little advice, if possible.

I now live in the US and don't plan on coming back to the UK in the near future. I still have some outstanding student loans left in the UK and have left sufficient money in a UK account to cover the cost of the loan repayment.

The issue I have is that as a non-resident of the UK, my savings account options are pretty poor and from reading around on this site, it appears that investing the (relatively small amount of) money into stocks etc is far more complicated than I'm prepared to engage in.
Consequently, the money i'm keeping in the UK to repay my loans is effectively shrinking (as bank account interest is lower than inflation and/or student loan interest rate).
I've looked at the option of moving the money to the US, investing it, then moving it back to pay the loans; but the overall difference is pretty minimal at best, due to the cost of moving and exchanging the money.

Whilst I appreciate Martin's normal suggestion to not pay your student loan back early (as it's the best loan rate you'll get), as far as I can see early repayment makes the most sense for me. 

Am I missing anything or would this sound logical to you?
