Buyer's Solicitors Ignoring Us

We are in a very frustrating position. I know it's coming up to the end of the Stamp Duty holiday (this doesn't affect us, just bad timing) but we have been trying to agree an exchange date with our buyer's solicitors for six weeks. They are ignoring us and our buyer. Its a private sale so no estate agent to chase. Any ideas what we can do?

Either way, not much you can do as you are not their client. If the buyer is frustrated enough then they could lodge a complaint.1 -
Are you sure your buyer is telling the truth?
It is highly unlikely for SIX WEEKS they have called every day and never spoken to their solicitor, or the secretary even.
How would they know they can exchange if the last contact was late July. Something doesn't add up.Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....2 -
Any bets that the issue is with the lender, and the solicitor has given up on trying to explain this to the putative buyer in words they'll understand?0

You are only going to exchange contracts when all the enquiries and other paper work is done and you have an agreed completion date. Is that the case?I am a mortgage broker. Our buyer is as desperate to exchange as we are, first time buyer, moving out of home so no notice to give or anything. Our solicitor has contacted our buyer's two to three times a week for six weeks and had no reply. This morning we have escalated our case to one of their managers. There are no issues with mortgage offers. Its very frustrating0

What you should try to understand is that the buyer and their solicitor need to do their due diligence in the purchase of your property. It is they who decide when they are happy to proceed to exchange.
You and your solicitor would be quite happy to sell the property as is, without any enquiries being raised.
It is therefore the case that the sellers/sellers solicitor are always 'ready' before the buyers/buyers solicitors are 'ready'.
The lack of contact and/or agreement on completion dates would strongly suggest that the buyer's solicitor is not 'ready' to discuss dates.
Your solicitor will understand that and I doubt very much that they have been chasing 'two to three times a week for six weeks'0 -
It seems that people are not believing that our solicitor has been chasing as regularly and for as long as I have stated but it is true as I have been copied in on all of the emails. Problem solved now. After escalating our case, a partner has taken over and contracts issued for signing and exchange within the hour. It would appear that the original 'case handler' was inexperienced and so just didn't respond to any contact. Thank you to all for your comments3
