Council tax enforcement notice out of the blue

Good afternoon everyone. My relatives today got a enforcment notice from an agency on behalf of the local council for unpaid council tax.
The notice was sent to their current address in regards to an address which they don't live in and have not for sometime.
The council have not made any attempt to contact them even though they clearly have the right address.
From what I understand from the CAB website they have 7 days before people come to collect the debt. They want to dispute the debt or at least have it explained to them. What can they do?

Well first they should speak to the local authority to establish exactly what property the debt relates to, what period does it cover? The council will absolutely have issued a bill, and possibly other notices as required by law; your post doesn't make clear what the notice received actually is, and where in the recovery process it is.ahai1 said:Good afternoon everyone. What may have happened is that previous correspondence has been sent to your relative's last known address and the council have only now found their current address. It's just speculation though, so speaking to the council has to be the first step.0
