Christmas Present for Daughter

Hi All,

My daughter will be 17 months old at Christmas and I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for presents?

Just google it! For example, this popped up from John Lewis (for ideas, not the prices!)

You don't really need to go mad with lots of things for this age group, though. They are happy with two or three lovely things.

Those things would be okay for a 7 month old, maybe. Chewing on things should be minimal by 17 months . . .  By that age, most babies need far more stimulation than simple bashing and chewing. Most of them are walking and talking by then. :)

  • For ours on their first Christmas we got them things they would 'need' for future years. A cute personalised stocking, a personalised bauble. Some Christmas themed books. Anything we would want to start traditions, e.g. Santa plate for leaving food out for reindeer, elf on the shelf etc. I know it's not her first Christmas but it's an idea if you don't have any of that stuff. Last year the twins were 18 months and they got an Ikea kitchen and food and a toy workbench with tools. Both were a big hit. The grandparents got them books, toddler jigsaws, clothes.

  • It's such a shame that TV advertising and parents, yes parents sadly are mostly to blame. I've seen so many parents upset and crying over not being able to afford presents! How about food, heating and clothing! Children won't die from not having a present. When I was growing up my parents explained properly to us 4 children there was no money to spend on gifts, we were happy with some food. I won't say heating as we certainly didn't have much or clothing! Pop in to charity shops  pick up stuff on line on FB Market Place if you feel that guilty.  No  it's not humbug for me I like to get my priorities right. Enjoy your Christmas and New Year with hugs and love of your family, if you're lucky enough to still have them and true friends who don't need money or gifts. Do things together, make special memories ♥ x

This is perhaps the most important thing. Make memories and take plenty of photos so that you can chat with your little person in time to come. Create traditions like reading the Gruffalo, walk  round the neighbourhood to chose the best lights/decorations & put a note through that door. Play simple games. Don't forget the Christmas stocking which needs a satsuma in the toe!

Buying presents: something long lasting like the wooden kitchen / workbench as mentioned above.
Keep away from cheap and nasty (or even expensive!) tatt

have a wonderful time- it's just one day after all!
Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!
