I've handed in more notice than my minimum requirement - do I need to serve it all?

Hi all,
I've been at my current job for 2 years or so. My minimum notice period that I must serve is 4 weeks. I decided to hand in 6 weeks to help with the hiring process and to be amicable in helping out my manager.
It's coming to the end of the 3rd week and I'm regretting handing in more than my minimum. Things are stressful and issues with the department are being put on me.
My question is, even though I said in letter of resignation that I'll serve 6 weeks of notice and that my last day will be on 7th of October, am I required to keep to it?
Many thanks in advance.

You could submit new notice for 4 weeks - but as you are only three weeks away from your leaving date that wouldn't help you now.

Why not have a word with your manager? Anyone can change their mind. If it really is not possible and you have to stick it out then you could remind people in 'the department' that you are leaving very soon and cannot possibly take on any more work as you need to clear your workload before you leave. I think that is perfectly acceptable. It's not a good idea to take on any more work than you are likely to finish before your leaving date.
It's only two weeks and one day until 7 October. It would not be unreasonable or unusual for anyone to start winding down their duties.
