Blulu - I feel your pain and have faced the same problems. But have you thought of using the post office? You can pay in and withdraw from most banks over the post office counter. Easy and quick, and a lot better than travelling miles to go to a bank that's probably not even open. I discovered this during the lockdown and it has really made life easier! Most areas have a post office nearby?
Thanks Joolski, that would make sense, other than we've been with HSBC forever, and apart from this one thing, they've been great. It's not usually a problem getting there. We drive, or I do it while nipping to town. Having said that, I hadn't thought of that re the post office and will store it in the brain in case the bank ever dare risking 'the wrath of Blulu' again
May the force be with you

I am brave, I am bruised
I am who I'm meant to be
I'm not scared to be seen
I make no apology
THIS IS ME!
When you talk down to others it says more about you than them.

Yeh, I just thought I'd let you know as I hadn't known about it before, and it really helped when I was stuck!
