Using a broker doesn't cost money, the good ones are free. They get paid by the bank when you take a mortgage out. Also, in your circumstances, a (good) broker would make a lot of sense.
Going off this logic it means I am not good.

Good to know my value is based on how cheap I am. What happened to the phrase "Good, Quick, Cheap - you can have any 2"
No the good ones are the ones who know what they are doing and get results for their clients ,keep up the good work ACG.
Going off this logic it still means im not good  :p

    Have a hug.

I've lost count how many of us you're helped get mortgages and remortgages. You're worth every pound spent and take the stress out of applying for a mortgage.
Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.

I'm an IFA.  Yet I still used a mortgage broker for my mortgage.   It saved me time, hassle and it made sure the right lender was selected from the outset.

And in respect of the comment on free ones being best, you actually are more likely to find the free ones are not anywhere near as good if your case is one that pushes limits on borrowing or has negative issues which could impact on lending decisions.  The free ones typically want the easy stuff and do that well.   However, the lack of quality shows when the problems occur.   Often because the free ones don't actually use qualified and knowledgeable staff to do the processing.  Those cheaper staff don't know what to do with problems.

I used an IFA when I needed a larger loan than we were generally being offered. They are used to being dishonest so they knew what to say to get the loan I needed.

How long ago was that because so called "liar loans" are a lot more difficult these days. My finances were thoroughly checked. The only way I'd get more was if I gave false documents.

  • My broker has been brilliant. Honestly it’s just been so much easier to explain something to someone who knows what she is talking about and have them sort everything out for you. It’s also been great to have someone to ask all the silly questions to and ours has sorted out all the insurance for us as well.

I get not wanting to spend money - our broker has a flat fee of £600 which sure is a sizeable chunk of cash… but when you’re spending hundreds of thousands of pounds on a purchase are you really going to quibble about a few extra hundred?

I fell for that one too. You have to have home insurance as part of the mortgage deal. Is it OK if I sort it out for you? I paid for one year and the next year I got it for less than a third of the price.
